As some of you know, I have been playing in games 2,3 and 6 lately. You might also have noticed I haven't been very active in the games, this has been due to personal circumstances I'm afraid.

I'll not bore you with the personal circumstances (I've already bored Richard with them) but as a result of them I need to cut back on various aspects of my life and as part of this I am going to have to drop out of 2 games-after a long hard thought I have decided to leave games 2 and 3.
I am interested to know what you guys think about this new game that is not out yet. The reason I ask that way is this... Have any of your ever played any of the other Total War simulations. I have not, but from the few people I have talked to they appear to be good.

The Game

Ancient Battles is a map-based game played through the post. The rules can be purchased here, while game turns are paid for with your turn as they are sent to us. Features historical armies and limited visibility, so an enemy warband behind a hill won’t be seen, and you can set up clever ambushes! Armies covered include the Hittites, Egyptians, Assyrians, Scythians, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Huns, Picts, Saxons, Turks, Samurai, Crusaders, Mongol and Romano-British, amongst others.

The Spielmesse in Essen is just a few days away. Anyone going to be there. I have been there 3 times and I am always amazed by the size of the thing. I usually buy a lot of of games (basically as many as I can get into the suitcase), 30kgs more in my luggage when leaving than when entering Germany last year. No reason not to do the same this year.

Hi folks.

Thought i would start a new topic off, as i am thinking which is better. Is it better to have Stores, in a town. Or a magazine? Will the stores last as long as the magazine? Will twelve stores, last a year? I have not been involved in a battle as of yet, so i am not sure of the answer. Obviously stores are better with an army, as supply routes cannot be cut off. Do the stores last as long as they should? How long does the magazine last? Am i right in saying that Muskets, are not ...

Hi Guys.

I've had a few PC problems this week(serves me right for upgrading to Vista! )and my email was on and off and I accidently deleted a load without reading them.

As I've not received my turn back for Game 7 I'm a bit worried it may have arrived but got dumped along with the rest of the mail.

Or are we still waiting for the turn?

Cheers.

Find it interesting that no Drummer, Band Regiments are in the rules list, for building. Surely this period was at the heart of this action. Anybody out there got such units. If so, how much do they cost? how long to build? how many recruits? are they needed even?

Historical precedent

Under the doctrine of state sovereignty, a Nation had the right to adhere to its own laws within its own borders and on ships flying its flag. Thus, Nations did not usually have the right to stop and search another Nation's vessels on the high seas. The one universally recognized exception was for acts committed on the high seas that were condemned as acts of piracy ...

Aso, a great move in LGDR game six. The Calfornian gold strike has been discovered, and all players have been invited to submit claims, by the Spanish player. Gold for everyone- only in game six. Certainly a very interesting development.

Based on a comment by JamesBond007 (about wanting to play England) and some occasional musings of my own, are there any nations you have an interest in playing but haven't yet? If so, any reasons?

For myself

1) The Pope/Papal States. Just sounds interesting and different. It could be interesting to play a bit of a militant pope, one who secretly yearns to reunite all Christians or re-establish the Roman Empire

2) The Asanti or another African nation. We're still before the Scramble ...

Greetings. I have been thinking about the make up of the army. Any ideas about what works best in game terms? Do Ambulance sections, workshops, hospitals really work. They seem a big expense if a typical agema army is sick listed to three, after 3 or 4 turns. On this basis, it would make sense for armys to be around 30 units strong, wouldnt it? As most battles dureing that time, proved inconclusive, why bother with such big armys. They just go inactive quick. Smaller in size, but larger in number. ...
