Three Questions in One Empty Three Questions in One

Post by The Revenant Sat Apr 11, 2009 10:41 am

At the risk of triangulation, I've three small "technical" puzzles on which I'd appreciate views and advice:

Oddly, for a player of this game, I've not much background in military history. I seem to recall reading somewhere that for cavalry mounts mares are preferred (or was that only by Native Americans?) So, what are the pros and cons of mares vs stallions for military purposes?

When in their own realms, players communicate through monthly letters. What happens when two leader-characters get together at a "face to face" conference? Are we allowed more immediate communication? (I'd guess not.)

Do mines/mineral-deposits have a set life? i.e. do they run out of minerals after a certain amount of exploitation?

Looking forward to usual helpful responses

    1. In real life Stallions where castrated to stop them getting frisky (Read the books by Allan Mallison on the 6th Light Dragoon series) He though had a Mare a welsch cob for his mount.

    2. It is just the same as letters but instead of via embassies you put in private conversation or the like to show you are talking firec to them.

    3. I am sure Richard will let you know if the mines run out although as the reenenue goe down from the mine you can tell it is petering out.

Thanks for all three! "Petering out" is the key term there for me...

A good look at books covering the wars of this era from the Osprey Press would be worth you while. They give a decent description of the weapons and tactics used. Further, the provide some decent maps.

I have been working on my collection of these books over the years. They are published in the UK and provide a good short history of every major conflict in the anals of war.

remember any major changes to how your forces currently work will take time to impliment and the equipment needs to be either invented or researched...horses bred etc...

Agreed... Don't change the horse in the middle of the creek. To have worked so hard on the military machine of my charges I have never fought a war in this game. I do believe the time is quickly drawing near for that event to happen.

I am beginning to be aware how slowly effects become implemented in this game... Smile So won't be rushing any major changes. In fact my curiosity is more about finding how things are with my military (in this instance), so that I can picture/use them, rather than make major changes.

If you are not in Game II or Game VII, I would be happy to answer questions as I believe that I have bounced numerous queries off Richard in the past few years. You can PM me if I could every be of assistance. Very Happy

I am in Game VII... Apropos of which, is the "country" of Poland in this game equivalent to the "Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth" of the period ? (in which case it is huge) or something more like modern Poland??

Not that I'm anywhere near Poland you understand...

Thank you Terry, some interesting news there. I think a more skilled experianced player has led me astray on this issue. So perhaps my armys can be made bigger after all.
