Technology Transfer

Post by The Real Louis on Sat May 15, 2010 10:55 am

If Nation A has a technology which Nation B wants to acquire, as I understand it the usual method is for A to be persuaded to send a Mission of the appropriate kind to B. If A has said he's willing but then fails to act (hmm) what are the alternatives? Can B send a Mission to A that (with A's permission) will learn the skill? Can B send a Mission that might succeed without A's permission?? Can an appropriately-placed Spy acquire the technology? Any other means?

A must must agree to let B send a mission or A must send a mission to B to help.

You can reverse engineer the technology BUT all the parts say a cannon or a watch are destroyed when doing so and there is no guarentee of it succeding.

trying to pinch it will be difficuly but not impossible, there will be more chance of getting caught.

You can send a mission but unless B has given permission then they will not do any thing!

Thanks, as always, for a reliably swift and informative response - even if it was what I was afraid to hear...

Hadn't thought of physically "acquiring" the technology for analysis. Is that the sort of thing a Spy is needed to arrange - or can, say, an Ambassador try to set up a theft (such a hard word!)?

depends on what you are after. say a FRGA you could buy one and then try and examine it but would loose it. same goes for a watch it is called reverse engineering

Yes a spy would be needed and if caught.....well say no more.....

FRGA ?? Sorry, being a bit dense... But apart from that "say no more" indeed!

Thanks again,
