    Recruiting overseas Empty Recruiting overseas

Post by sammon Wed Nov 11, 2015 9:04 pm

Hello guys this is my first ever question (probably not my last though.)
I have just started playing game 10 as a newbie, and I have a lot of overseas colonies, in which I want to recruit.
Do I have to sent a suitable number of ships to transport any recruits back, or do I just send a recruiting party, with required bounty money, off to those locations hoping that they magically appear on my sheet?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am still trying to get my head around what I can and cannot do.
Any help is very much appreciated, and many thanks for allowing me to join the forum.
    sammon.

My suggestion is to tread lightly. The people in your colonies that follow you are part of your population already so you have those recruits. You may end up trying to 'recruit' your own people.

This can really damage your economy when you pull people out of otherwise useful employment to put them to some other purpose.

Negotiating with the various indian states and chinese provinces for recruits is a better course, I think. Also you can purchase slaves for some uses.

I don't know the answer to this I'm afraid, but I do have a similar experience that happened to me in a previous game.

The King in Prussia gifted me with 1000 low-caste Hindus, located at Agra (India). I was located in the Caribbean or Europe (I can't remember which game it was). To get those recruits to my game position I would either have had to use my merchants to carry them back home (so disrupting my trade investments), or I could have hired 'foreign' merchants to ship the 1000 recruits to me. I presume I was to just mention in my turn orders that I was hiring merchants to deliver them and Richard (Agema) would do the necessary paperwork, mentioning a cost paid on my game return sheets.

So, as far as I know. If you raise recruits in another continent, you'll have to deliver them back to where you wish to use them.
If you raised recruits in your neighbouring countries, I'd imagine they'd be available to use in your country (as they could be walked back home along with the recruiting party).

As I say, I don't know the correct answer to your question. But I'm sure Kingmaker, or another veteran player, can answer with a definite answer.

    Firstly, welcome onboard Sammon Smile

It's much as Deacon says though I have found myself in the past that sending out a recruiting party in a colony has produced local recruits without damaging the economy. But sending recruits from the homeland is acceptable and an easy way to get recruits to where you need them-just bear in mind that long sea journeys can cause massive sickness levels to build up, even resulting in the loss of some recruits (as I've learnt the hard way).

The other thing to bear in mind is if you send out a recruting party, it only recruits anyone who is 'spare' so if there aren't any spare recruits in an area, you won't get any. I have in the past sent out parties, not got any recruits and yet the bounty money disappears...so I now always add a line to my orders that any unspent bounty money is to be returned to the treasury

You have to be careful when recruiting overseas as well. If you plan to return the recruits to your own lands. You need to be careful the recruits will not clash or upset your people's. Which will lead to an honour hit.

For example taking Indian or Chinease recruits and planting them in their thousands in any European country will be awkward and possibly lead to the above. Depends what you need them for and where they come from.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I will ponder on this for the time being and probably go with the recruiting party just to see what happens. This game certainly is a steep learning curve Smile.. good fun though.
    Thanks again everyone.

If you recruit in a country played by another player, thats considered by most as a near act of war and that player will target you. Good luck.

If you view the profile you can see the last time someone was on. In this case, about a year and a half ago, so I'd guess the answer is no.

Pity. Hate losing new players, but the game isn't for everyone, and it DOES have a steep learning curve.

It is a common feature in a lot of on-line forums. Helps if you want to know if somebody has been around.

Sammon could still be playing - it just means that they've not been on the forum since that point in time. I think that's what was meant?

Portugal is still playing in Game 10, and I know he isn't active on the forum (I think he posted twice on here, and a couple of times on the Facebook page)

I don't think Portugal and Sammon is the same person, as he'd played LGDR previously I believe.

Yes , that's true . But he did say he was a newbie and would probably have a load of questions but I take your point rozwi .
I was on his profile , Sammon's I mean and was pressing those white things above the last time he was on ,to see what they did (nothing) and still never noticed the date of his last contribution.
