Do they complete their work always in one turn? or is it multi-turn? It says you should wait 3 months before sending more, but it wasn't clear to me, though it seemed to imply it would take them more than 1 month to search.

Sometimes instantly, sometimes multi-turn. Depends on all sorts off things.
You can send out prospectors as often as you like but the chances of finding anything is much reduced if you search a area to soon after the last search.
You just throw away a bit of money, no big problem.

Ok, thanks. I sent out several groups last turn and got some answer this turn, and then realized that I expected that it would likely be another turn or two before I knew full result... without having any definitive reason I could recall for believing it was a multi-turn thing.
