A new player here, who decided to cut his teeth playing Portugal in a Glory of Kings game I shall not mention. But if any charitable soul would care to give me some pointers on how to play Portugal, I would be much obliged.

Many thanks to all that have replied, really. I am growing to love the concept of this game, but it does have a scope that needs a bit (or a lot) to get used to. The rules only hint at what I can do... and do not tell me how disastrous it will be if I do certain things

I'm sure you'll do what most of us have done, which is spend a year or so making a complete hash of your first position, then move on to another a little wiser!

But at least Portugal is not critical... it could have been England, France, Spain, Austria, Russia... then it would have upset the balance too much, I think. Portugal is small potatoes, so even if I mess it up, I won't upset the balance of power... I hope

No position is small, in my experience, played varying positions from Persia to England and they are all very different with there own big problems. Just know that all of us are more than willing to help, just don't attack us on turn one, otherwise you might find that help turn to hinderance:evil:
