Jack Steel Novels

Post by count-de-monet on Sun Jun 22, 2008 10:48 am

Hi guys,
just read the first installment in the Jack Steel novels, "A Man of Honour" by Iain Gale. It looks as if the series is going to be along the line of the Richard Sharpe novels, but set in the early 18th Century and the Malborough campaigns. In the first novel, we are also told that Steel served the Swedish Army against Russia before joining the British Army, so some hope of some novels covering that war as well.

I think the Richard Sharpe series is an exceptional, enjoyable and easy to read series so it would be a bit unfair to try and draw too many comparisons, when I have only just read the first one but in my opinion I think its a good start, with some promising characters.

The first novel is now out in paperback, and the second in hardback. If you liked Sharpe, the first is worth a look and quite cheap on Amazon. It does describe warfare in the period of LGDR and my also make some interesting background reading for the game.
