Could it be that the wooden swords and traditional swordplay are a form of Russian morris dancing, and the Tsar wants to impress at an upcoming dinner party?

I hear there's plenty of monkeys to be had in India...

no the Tsar has found a book about 15c sword training and wants us to explore its merits for him and report back!
