The cold war in the North seems to get rather hot, the next few months should be very interesting indeed.

For those of us not in that game, it always helps to provide some background. What's going on?

The battle at Pskov, 1,5 page of it. The short version is that Sweden gave the Russian bear a bloody nose, but the Russian army is big so it will take some time before this is decided.

Re: Sweden V Russia (G7)
My solution would be to issue more whips to the Russian officers with Siberian Inf at the back of he regular inf forcing them forward, it worked for me in Narva

Re: Sweden V Russia (G7)
Have read the account of Pskov in G7 and I think several points stand out:
1) Like Chalons.........fancy manovering and attempted re-deployments on the battlefield suffered at the hands of simple, direct and brutal. Basically while one Russian Command attempted to extend the range, dig massed artillery into field works a second Russian/Cossack command massed behind the Guns & Regular foot ready for a Pursuit while the third force acted as a covering force.
Meanwhile a fourth Russian Army is heading for the battlefield with yet more reinforcements.
Against the cunning of the Russian General Staff trying to take maximium advantage of their overwhelming artillery advantage. What was General Wrangel solution? .........."We attack at dawn with cold steel. Oh and tell some Dragoons to try and cover the rear against Cossacks."
Result while Russian commands 1, 2 and 4 carried out their orders poor old Command 2 (The covering force) gets almost the whole Swedish Army smash into it and has to fight at odds of 2 to 1 against.
2) Russian plan seems a bit like a classic "Ottoman battle plan" to me........with first line of expendable troops to disorder and tire the foe who then gets stopped by line of guns and foot before being ridden down by outflanking Cavalry.
Problem is that because of the Agema turn system which can extend battles over many "months" instead of battle mad Swedes chargeing/pursing to disaster like the French/Hungarian Knights the Swede has now got a turn to look at the massed line of dug in Russian Guns and Infantry with Cavalry support and think:
A) They are only Russians.............Charge!
or
B) Sod that ......I am off to ?????? and the Russians can either sit in their nice field works or follow me into a war of encounter battles, ambushes and fast cavalry strikes.

Sounds like too many generals and the common refrain I've read in the forums that simplicity trumps complexity.

Re: Sweden V Russia (G7)
With an ongoing "battle" I can not reveal too much but the Russian battle plans were not quite as they appeared.
The truth is, for reason the basic plan for July was to avoid contact and hold Swedish forces.
I think the biggest issue for Russian forces was the split command, which while the battle report suggests was decided fairly quickly it did cause issues. There a three Russian forces at Pskov and two of the three didnt effectively get involved. That did make it a very un-even fight with the only result possible !
That said Russian losses were less than 2,000 men. Russian pride is hurt more than Russian assets.

Re: Sweden V Russia (G7)
I have a question regarding a battle report, being a AOK gaming noob the closest to armed conflict I have come is when one of my slaves refused to double quick time my Palanquin to the
nearest gentleman's privy after an especially spicy curry for lunch.
When a battle occurs do you receive a special report separate to your game turn ?
