plans and what to do next Empty plans and what to do next

Post by one grain of grain Tue Sep 03, 2013 2:34 pm

Hi all, I could use some help. I have just recently had some naval plans fall into my lap so to speak, I have the plans listed in my return sheet.
my question is what to do next to use them ? Should I order my naval academy to study them or is it the Shipyard that needs to do that.

    Cheers

A naval Academy or shipwright academy should be asked to study any naval (construction) plans.

A shipyard can be ordered to build any available design, it can not make a design on it`s own.

Correct bear in mind the first few may not be as good as the rest as they are a new design and you do not have any one who has made them before, hence missions to pas on the skill, plans are good but if you have only built yachts and want to build a 100gun sol ....... Shocked

There is also the ultimate peak of naval construction, VLSOL 120g. I wonder if anyone have actually built one, or used it in battle.

From the Advice for Princes, & c. page 9

    120-gunner Lineship: 900 recruits
40,000 to raise, takes 12 months. Yearly upkeep 12,000
Then it says it carries 100 24 pdr cannon, but it must be 120.

Very large version of the standard ship of the line, carrying greater firepower. Majestic vessels with heavily gilded woodwork. Tactically they where usually deployed at the van and stern of the line of battle (the most vulnerable points).
120-gunner lineships can only be gained as a research breakthrough if your shipwrights already know how to make 100-gun lineship.

Thanks Ardagor you cleared that up and thanks all for your replies, One thing Kingmaker about building from scratch with regard to a lack of skills, over time will the skills improve as each new ship is built and do the first ships built
come with noted defects or do they become apparent if say you do sea worthy trials.

    Cheers.

I was happy because Prussia had a special naval unit, ie the Gun boat ( emphasis on Gun singular) I think you are making up stories about 120 gunners, just to make me jealous All that metal will never float.

Maybe if anyone has 120 gunners in G2 they should send them to the Baltic and have them sail up and down the Prussian coast for a bit...just to annoy the Kaiser Very Happy

When the Baltic freezes over the Kaiser can go out on his sledge & visit the crews. With hot sausages in a bun

Of course with that fine Prussian naval tradition of building top heavy (over gunned?) ships which have a nasty trick of turning upside down if they try and tack on anything other than a perfectly calm sea or if the wind is greater than force two it is perfectly logical to only visit the Prussian Fleet when its stuck the right way up and not doing anything risky like putting up sails.

Ok the Gun boat with a 68pdr was a bad idea, but it was fun while it lasted.

Nothing wrong with a Gun Boat with a 68pdr provided:

    i) It never leaves harbour or its nice river

    &

ii) Its not crewed by "Prussians"

PS Ref Imperial Tax defaulters in G2 what the Emperor could do is threaten to conscript them into the Prussian Marine Corp (a service more dangerous than leading storming parties at Strassburg). Bet they would pay up then.

I never said the 68pdr gunboat got launched, getting it wet would spoil the paintwork. It was safest on land so it was left there, did consider putting it on wheels as a land ship but that may be a bit too advanced. It'd never work anyway.

Mr Bailey you are a genius, I think the Imperial tax service may soon be making enquireies at your door. Please don't leave the country.
