Re: New PBM Magazine
I was over on the WargameVault website, today, and I noticed that Richard has a preview of a newspaper for Scramble for Empire accessible by site users there. Richard, have you not considered using such newspapers as a primary form of advertisement for your games?
I ask, because it strikes me that Agema places fee barriers, where it might not be best served to place them. If you used the newspapers as ads, they would likely hold readers' attention for longer spans of time. Ultimately, PBM gaming is imagination based, whether postal or electronic mediums are used to deliver the experience of the game to the players.
Image ads are all fine and dandy, and I like them, myself. However, the newspapers, or some variant thereof, might prove useful in growing the hype for your games.
Just a suggestion.

I don't know about the new blood part, but it is back, and thanks for sharing the link to the download for the latest issue, Issue #10 of Suspense & Decision magazine.
I've already started on Issue #11, but it would be nice to have an Agema game article or two to toss into next issue's mix, if anyone here is up for it.

Articles, reviews, even just thoughts of a paragraph or two. Those who enjoy your games the most and who have played them the best hold the potential to be the most persuasive to others.
The main thing is for their to be a steady presence of word about Agema and its games, in order for the magazine to be of much use to you.
Ads are always good. They can help. But, from my perspective, the PBM Activity Corner (which is for stuff submitted by companies) and various stuff submitted by players. If you want to be noticed, then make some noise in the magazine. Otherwise, people will focus on the noise made by other companies and about other games.

Re: New PBM Magazine
Passing through this morning, while browsing various websites. It has proved to be a good morning so far this morning, for Issue #11 of Suspense & Decision magazine, with material from the Alamaze and Phoenix: BSE communities submitted.
The question remains, though, will the Agema community be represented in Issue #11?

I've already read that thread. I already have an article from one person, submitted a little earlier, today. If they are already aware of the desire for submissions, and they are already pondering submitting something for our next issue, then I'm not sure what purpose that me interrupting them might serve.
They have a good number of days left, yet, to get something submitted in time for it to appear in Issue #11 of Suspense & Decision magazine.

Re: New PBM Magazine
My plan for next issue, assuming I get to it, is to give them a first turn setup (burma) and then walk through what the parts are of it.

Re: New PBM Magazine
I'd be interested in reading an article like that.
Even should it solely by written for this forum.
Even though I've played LGDR/TGOK before I'm still pretty much useless at it and I, personally, would benefit from such an piece.
One of the reasons I chose to play as Rozwi, this time around, was due to the limited technology and build options - Previously I've played European states, and the huge amount of options have overwhelmed and had me spreading myself far too thin in attempts to cover all bases. So far, my 'small' African tribal nation has been ideal for me, as 80% of the options available to build aren't available to me due to the constraints of playing-in-character (or even if I did announce in my turn orders that my mud-hut settlement in the woods was to build an academy of civic engineering, I know what the GMs answer would be ... Next turn's newspaper would feature my perplexed people prodding at the 'things' with sticks, shaking their heads in puzzlement, while the local witch doctor hopped about spitting out curses and damning all things non-African).
Another puzzle that I'm working slowly towards is trade. My current game position has investments already in place, but I've been bitten before in previous games by the intricacies of trade. This time around I'm carefully approaching new avenues of local resources, searching them out, then developing characters to oversee them while attempting to guarantee a healthy 'product'. I'm hoping to then make trade investments in these specifics next year, and also establish trade missions. [the problem now though is, I've just given my planned outline away and risk other players sabotaging my efforts.]
I've just realised the dangers of writing things down for other players to read.
Hmm, now that's an interesting predicament to ponder. How to write a helping-hands article without compromising yourself.

It doesn't tend to be so much hard to get articles as it just tends to take a lot of prodding. That's been my experience, to date, with Suspense & Decision magazine.
If people didn't think in terms of writing articles, but rather, in terms of just submitting a few thoughts, there would probably be noticeably more people sending something in.
But it is what it is, for good or bad. Time is always an issue, simply because there's always any number of things that cut into my available time. No one really seems to step in and fill the gap, when I step back from it, though, and even though I do get distracted with other things, I really do hate to see there be no PBM magazine up and running. Ultimately, you just give up and close up shop for good, or you try to give it another go. I went with the latter.
It's no worse nor more difficult hat getting issue #1 off the ground, though. At least by this point in time, I have some inking of what to do. It's always helpful to have more material to draw from, rather than less.

Hope people enjoy my article on a Burma Startup Position.
I'd encourage others who might have thoughts to knock out an article. It isn't that hard.
