Well, I've made a sort of sideways entry to this forum already, but I thought I'd make it official.

I've just started playing my first ever Agema game - and am not sure whether to call it TGOK or LGDR. But apart from that (hopefully) things are going pleasingly. I took early retirement from Post Office Counters Ltd at the age of 50 (10 years ago!) and spent the next three years GMing a fantasy role-play pbm for Harlequin (the Exile version of Saturnalia). Then it was time to move north to Yorkshire, to Hebden Bridge (my mother-in-law's birth-town), where Brenda and I ran a B&B for the next six years (and thoroughly enjoyed it) while my stepson James went to Uni in Bradford (and then went back to live in his birth-place - Uxbridge, Middlesex). Just before Christmas 2007 we "retired" and closed-down the business, in the belief that we had sold our over-large home - however, all these months later and the legal and financial hassles continue, though with luck they might resolve by the end of September. Our dream is to downsize and stay in this rather special place, and (fingers crossed) that dream is coming true (albeit more slowly than we'd hoped). So that's me. I have some odd tastes in literature and music, but won't bother you with them here.

But while I am here I will ask a couple of questions, please...

Just how do I get an "avatar" under my name on the posts? I have (I hope) a suitable image, but where/how do I send it?

I'm hoping to build some canals at some stage, which I understand helps Trade. My question is, do I also need to build barges to get that trade-improvement, or do I only need to build barges if I want to use them for official purposes (like moving troops or supplies)?

Any questions in return, please feel free to ask - personal or game-related (though what I know about the latter can be written on the back of a stamp at the moment).

    Have fun one and all

Welcome Jim. Some of us long time gamers still refer to the game as LGDR, but I believe its moved on to being more commonly known as TGOK. Old habits die hard however.

You've entered a fantastic, fun and addictive gaming world. Enjoy it, and either via the forum or in game letters you will find plenty of good experienced players willing to help.

I have noticed that in game, players can quite happily go to war and bash each other up, but grudges dont seem to develop, and regardless of what happens players are willing to help each other out with advice.

Thanks to all for the welcome (and guidance). A slight delay in repsonse is due to my absence in Ireland for a week's holiday. (We only got slightly wet...) As you will see, I have benefitted from the steerage on creating an avatar - I'd been put off by some other instructions about "uploading images to the site".

More questions, no doubt, when I get my first turn back

Ah... intrigued by my "avatar", eh? (Or maybe not.) I'm in Game 7, and still unsure how much we're supposed to (allowed to) give away about our positions in this forum (somewhat circumventing the "no direct communications" rule?)

Positions are ok, but remebr that any thing you try to arrange must go thru the GM and game mechanics, othrwise it will fail as the GM will see no real evidence of how it came about.

I love the way that Richard keeps the game honest and working under conditions as close to the time period as we can get. I also, love the quote about the inquisition in the rule book. NICE! Speaking of Game VII, I can't wait to see what happens this turn!

Welcome to Agema Games, I game in LGDR #2, but, thought I would welcome you anyways! You can depend on Richard to run an honest, and interesting game, he is a gentleman of the highest order!! I have known
him for a number of years, and, I have developed naught but a tremendous attitude of respect and unbounding admiration for him, and his family! For outstanding gameplay, you have come to the correct place. Besides, anybody that put-up with my eccentricities is alright in my book!!! albino
