Hello Everybody

Post by Nexus06 on Tue Apr 14, 2015 7:50 am

From the lands of italy.
I used to play the pope in an ancient lgdr game.
I got addicted.
I didn't like the position sincerely but i honestly miss the game.
I saw it is going to be launched a game 10, but all my favourite positions are aldeeady taken (Austria, Russia, Savoy) and americas repubblic is not listed.
Therefore i would kindly ask to all of you expert gamers wich position could be both nice, potential and not eccessively challenging.
Could you be so kind to share your knowledge with me?

welcome, well it all depends on whats left and where in the world you wish to play?

Some of the German states can be fun and interesting. Polish commonwealth states are difficult but can be fun.

But for some fun try a Chinese position or the Japanese one....

Many of these smaller, less challenging positions are open in more recent games. I'm pretty sure Russia, for instance, is open in Game 8, and we're only in year 1705, so not so far off.

So, I'd consider trying one in a recent game, and if you like it, reserve it for game 10.

When I joined the game, I tried a position in an existing game to learn a bit, and found it a good way to get started (or in your case, re-started!)

Welcome!

Thak you very much for your kind answers, wich i found usefull and interesting. I honestly have to admit that i would join almost any position in order to come back playing, but i was so lucky to find one of my favourite still available.
I'm eager to start, hope i'll not get kicked out too son.

Very Happy

Welcome and enjoy your gaming.

Like you, I am coming back after a while. I enjoyed the Chinese position so much I have reserved one of them for game 10, it is a different culture to my background but very interesting to learn and even better with other Chinese positions filled to work together with.

Thanks Jason, irl work keeps getting in the way of my way time but I am glad to be getting back into Richard's games. I will probably hold off the Napoleonic battles for a while though.

Deacon thanks for the heads up I will email Richard and see what is available, may have a new job coming up with lots to learn so may end up with game 10 only. I will also check the game 8 thread here too.

Nexus06 have you had a think about what you want to dive in with? May be you and I could join in the Chinese team in game 8 and with Jason be a force to be reckoned with in the world? I am sure there would at least be a friendly rivalry between any such positions in gaining the emperors favour to keep us on our toes.

There is only one Lord Fong in Game 8 and it is not Jason, but we are close friends and allies of course.

You do not play Lord Fong...Lord Fong plays you Wink

But seriously, it does seem that whoever plays Kwantung Province, it's always in a similar style to those who have played it before. I was a Chinese character in G8 for a while (before a cashflow problem caused me to drop out) but that was Manchuria-very different to Kwantung but fun.

The Chinese positions work best when you are not the only one active. It would be rather amazing to have all five filled and people in it for the long haul-imagine a revived empire, outward looking, maybe adopting the role of protector towards its smaller neighbours to ward off those nasty barbarians from Europe. You do have the disadvantage of starting from a lower technology level (no flintlocks, no wheeled artillery, no navy) but if you can get a nice barbarian to help you out with flintlocks and wheeled artillery, and are willing to put the effort into a navy (you can't build SoLs but you can build great and heavy frigates plus you have 'War Junks', a sort-of-SoL...and naval rockets), you can achieve a lot in time.

Oh, and have an institute to 'rediscover' lost chinese technologies...good for trade and military improvements...

I have been in Game 8 since the start and there have been some bumps in the road, the economy was a major source of concern for years. Right now everything is excellent in Kwantung. We are always sad to see a chinese brother leave us, we have seen many come and og over the years but Manchuria and Kwantung have been in close contact for several years. Brothers, friends and allies.

In any case, hope you will be sucessful with Kwantung i Game 9, I am as you may now in Game 9 as well as Aurangzeb, The Great Moghul.
