Fighting outside of your home area Empty Fighting outside of your home area

I have noticed that in G7 that Russians & Swedes fighting in the Baltic and Eastern Europe seemed to be really fit & strong......marching through snow storms to then storm fortresses via ladders with seemingly little effect and any sickness levels was soon sorted out by a month or so camping.

But send same Russians to the British Isles and half of them drop dead from the dreaded “Scots Flu” or related causes. Perhaps, its because historically the Russians were really bad at logistics and poor sailors but it seems that Russian forces in their home area are rock hard. You can March them through a howling snow storm in the Ukraine and you may get Sickness level 1. But show them some damp, or a few midges or even worse a boat and half of them are in hospital. And their recovery times also seem to be much worse than back home on the Steppe

I was wondering if anyone else had experience of fighting outside of their armies normal zone of opperations and if this problem applies to all troops equally or some positions are better than others? Do France, Spain, Dutch, English who have colonies & experience of other area's suffer less outside their home areas than say Moghul Indians or Asante troops?

And do some troops cope better in home areas that others? So Asante think its a really nice day while outsiders die of heat stroke in same conditions?

I was also wondering if like in Scabble it would benefit to get troops used to conditions? I swear in scabble the Brits and the Russians have spent have the game skiing or climbing mountains while the German Army now objects if it has to fight anywere which is not warm and with a very large beach.

Pass. I can't provide any information myself on the questions you've asked, but without realising it (and that those things had happened in other games) in game 10 I'd advised Portugal that a period of training would be required in their East African territory, before the commencement of war against the Malagasy King. [Though Portugal may have been going to also suggest this, but I got there first?]

Fair enough my thinking was more about the need for Tribal and European to learn to co-exist on the battlefield, in a co-operative joint military expedition, but it may just, also, benefit the European troops to acclimatise to Africa's weather and health conditions.

I wonder if dysentery, or the like, due to rapidly spoiling rations, or poor selection of rations, would cause the Sickness Level to be increased in European troops fighting outside of their natural theatre of operations? Mosquitoes. Poor drinking water. Heat exhaustion. Quite the list of things could go wrong, as you hinted at.

I don't think Rozwi will be invading Europe anytime soon!

I have Portuguese units in Africa who are doing just fine having been in the field a long time.

I don't know what to make of it.

Somewhere I seem to recell reading that the Russians of the time were like this-thoughest fighters when on home turf...but take a step across the border and they seem to lose all ability to fight.

Have you ever experienced a Highland winter...or summer for that matter? The only thing that keeps you alive is drinking way too much single malt...no wonder the Vodka-drinking Russkies have had it Wink

My experience in game seems to be Germanic troops fight well anywhere they are, same applies to the English and Dutch; my limited combat experience with the Chinese is they fight well when expanding the Empire but can't handle a bunch of girl guides at home.

Maybe Chinese player's should raise women's / girl's fighting formations for any internal policing work that involves conflict. From memory, Asian female units / soldiers have always been accounted fiercely loyal and determined fighters.

Saying that, it could probably be said of any female fighter
