Anybody got any ideas on how I can make my Fund-raiser Ball at Hull a success?

I have to admit to not having any ideas, so far Crying or Very sad

My chap's a commoner, and the guests will be the common-sort, but I am quite flush when it comes to money.

I'm guessing hiring a squad of harlots (to ensure enough dance partners) will be frowned upon

Good food & Drink, maybe a Local personality/ dignitary can be invited, (Mayor, or rich business man), with a firework display promised at the end. Or make it a masked ball.

    Thanks for that.

The drinks already laid on, as is the music in the form of a professional musician and his troupe. But I reckon an interlude of a couple of sea shanties might work during the 'intermission', and arranging for some light nibbles might also help. I might even think up some sort of raffle competition.

    Think sponsorships.

If this is a fund raiser, first dance is put on by joe's cooper. Refreshments from The cockeyed pig tavern, etc. Dance cards sponsored by the honorable, so and so.

Maybe also look to see if anything historically happened on the day, famous battle, saints day, discovery etc & turn that into a theme, maybe on that day in History for 400 years was the proclamation of the Royal Charter making the area a city, or the start of the building of its Cathedral, maybe that way you can turn it into a celebration of an event & give a talking point & theme to the party.

Hmm, how to celebrate something happening in England on the 5th of November. I wonder... Yes, I'd forgot all about what I'd already set in motion. Good job you reminded me, Jason

I guess I'd best find someone to make me an effigy we can burn.

    I can't believe I forgot about this!

Just order a few casks of good Scottish whisky and all will be well Wink

Fireworks, bonfire, whisky...what could possibly go wrong...

Still think Guy Fawkes was the only person who has ever gone to Parliament with a clear political goal
