Honour

Gents - with regards Honour... is this something you must spend with your own hard earned cash rather than the states? i.e buildings, balls etc.

I am not sure I quite understand the question.

I do not think, if I play this game for another one hundred years, I would ever claim to understand the honour score and standing.

Honour, as I understand it is fundamentally a reflection of your popularity within your own lands. Now this can certainly be bought in the sense of entertaining, or providing for society (eg Churches, Hospitals etc etc) and yes you can use State funds, but more than that I think it is through either "good" deeds, or clearly working to a policy that influential people in society support.

In my LGDR personalities, because I have struggled with honour I have tried to give my leaders a clearly defined focus, linking in to either the nobility or the church. In your actions deliver in areas that you know they will support or want to hear. It can be as simple as simply saying the right things, it doesnt always involve spending.

For example if you were the Venetian player, "The Hammer of the Turks", then spend your days, quite happily boasting about what you are going to do to the Turkish nation....bringing them to their knees, ramming Catholicism down their throats until they see the evil of their ways. The Venetian Nobility and Church will love it.

In reverse if you were a pirate leader, promising and carrying out illegal deeds, murder, pillage, stealing money, sending innocents to Davey Jones locker is going to make you a very popular leader with your men.

I have certainly found it easier to NOT pander to the whims of the nobles or church but to have a clear mind of how you want your leader to be seen (A champion of the faith etc) and lead public opinion....just make sure it is something that the nobilty and church will obviously agree with.

History and a clearer moral conscience has shown us that reforms such as giving every man the vote, or abolishing slavery are right and just. This is the early 18th century though....what will the nobles think of giving those gutter snipes a say in the country, or heavens forbid, allowing a serf or a man whose skin isnt white their own freedom ! That sir is just an outrage against everything that is good and true

As an example of honour Russia under Peter the Great nees to modernise, this I am doing and getting historic personalities to aid me. Similarly Prussia needs to be warlike and expansionist as well as appeal to the Germanic people to get honour.

Is anyone else noticing that your honour score is (can) now move more than a single point from one game turn to the next ? Mine dropped by three honour points this month !!! I have noticed jumps up of more than a single point as well.

I think this is a good idea, but thought that the general approach was it wouldnt move by more than a single point but an action could have a prolonged impact, over several months, on your honour score.

It all depends on how honourable the action or bad the action was to go up and down more than one point. You must have made one hell of a boo-boo to loose 3!

What is the maximum honour score achievable? What is the highest that you have got?

Im my current games my highest score is 36

I have been in a game where my honour was 54

In one game I'm on 61...and I'm the 6th in the 'much admired' ranking so I'd hate to think what the honour score is for no1.

Never seen numbers this high. Guess I belong at the bottom of the ladder. In truth, it seems that I always find countries that have been someone the agressor and then I come in and take over. It takes quite a while to repair the damage that has been done it seems.
