sweet music, the sound of drums.
Hi folks.
Find it interesting that no Drummer, Band Regiments are in the rules list, for building. Surely this period was at the heart of this action. Anybody out there got such units. If so, how much do they cost? how long to build? how many recruits? are they needed even?

I would put a request to Richard asking if and how, I would guess it would need a music accdemey to get it going

I would have thought that these Band Regiments would inspire the men. They did in real lives, which is why this type of Regimental music is still in evidence even today. I would have thought that more attack points would have been gained, if you had these units in your Army. Not much point in doing it, if no advantage gained, in this way.

It's an interesting idea. They could have a dual purpose-like JB said but also as ceremonial bands at court (and boost honour?).

Re: sweet music, the sound of drums.
I would imagine the band would consist of drummers and pipes? Not a full blown band?
Then you have to decide where they sit in an attack/defence situation and what if they rout does that cause an effect on the army seeing the band run away?
In the British Army bandsmen are the medics of the regiment....

Re: sweet music, the sound of drums.
I would have thought keeping the regimental colours flying would be more important than the band.
I can't see how you could raise an entire band regiment. Surely 700 musicians is complete overkill for the game? Surely the regiments as raised in the game already include things such as a regimental drummer/piper, and colours?

music or mayhem
I only have 2200 recruits a year so investing in 700 musicians would be an interesting move. Music is important for morale but i am sure my troops would be more heartened by the sight of a full battalion marching alongside than a man striking a triangle !!

I suppose if it was done by muscail academy you could have a 'band' of any size (10, 100 or 1000 recruits).

Re: sweet music, the sound of drums.
If it was me I would plum for a pipes and drums just a couple, say 10 of each, that all that is really needed. Most units in those days would have had a small section of boys on drums and pipes maybe with a couple of men to run it.
However as stressed if the band runs what effect on morale would it have?
I would raise the issue with Richard and see what he says. He may have already have them allocated as in Game 2 my Spanish forces attacked a town "with snake drums rattling and drumming and colours flying high" so does that answer the question?
