Does anyone else make use of Howitzers, or is it as I fear a forgotten weapon?
Some Nations towards the end of the period began to replace 2 of the guns in a battery with Howitzers. What can it do for us I hear you ask.
Well if you don't have Schrapnel, Howitzers firing explosive Shell have a similar effect,( admitted not as good but better than not having it at all) it is also an air burst projectile. Plus because of the trajectory Howitzers can fire over obstacles, they can also fire cannister at close range similar to a normal cannon.
Disadvantage is the lack of solid shot, so no taking out buildings or defences, however they can be set up for envalde fire on defensive positions & fortifications to fire shells over the area & kill/injure personal.
You also have the advantage of developing illumination rounds( the Prussians did this Historically)
So, is anyone else out there using them, I know they aren't in the rule book but they should be avaliable to everyone.
