Re: game slowdown
Maybe it will give people the chance to start up another position, with a slower turn around there isn't such a financial strain, plus you can fill the gaps in you schedule doing more turns.
Is it a cunning plan by Richard to play in more positions?

Re: game slowdown
I guess that might work for some, but for me, the slower the game processes the less I'm initerested. Most serious planning takes game years, and when the game is running about real time, that's more delay of gratification than I want...

If you start up another position or fill in the gaps as you put it. By doing more turns. Then there will be just as much financial strain, if not more financial strain. I think the problem is not financial more boredom.
It is very hard to get through turns as it is. I think you lose enjoyment and effort the longer you wait for a turn to arrive. If turns were five weekly, regularly, I would lose interest I fear. Which would be a shame, as I enjoy the game.

Re: game slowdown
Another possibility is that because we all enjoy it so much we are sending in longer & longer turns with requests to Richard to do extra orders, I know so players complain that not all their orders seem to get done, so maybe this could also be a reason.
Or maybe we are all so used to such a prompt turn around that when something happens in the Agema household to upset our best laid plans we find it disconcerting.

Must admit i'am guilty of that. I'm trying to keep orders as short as it is possible, but one full page per turn is still the less i can write. Anyway the awaiting of the turn is still as good as the turn itself so it is not really a problem at the moment for me.

Re: game slowdown
A nice balance is hard to strike, I find. Too slow, and I tend to lose the thread of my intentions (and therefore some interest and engagement). Too fast, and I find I'm losing too much of my leisure-time to constructing turns and thinking-through the detail. Richard can't win...

Re: game slowdown
...And an afterthought; I wonder if leaving sending-in orders until the last moment before the deadline slow things down? (or, conversely, whether getting them in early helps to speed things along) - or whether it in fact makes no difference? I know some orders have effects which have to be co-ordinated with orders from other nations - but the vast majority I would think are stand-alone and capable of being resolved without reference to other nations?

Re: game slowdown
I am horribly guilty of being late with orders. In fact with the recent slow down I have been holding orders well past when I should.

Re: game slowdown
Interesting. With the slow down, I end up plotting out much of my next turn before the turn even arrives, so I typically send in next turn orders very early. Not that it matters either way.

I am by nature a procrastinator... Further, being short staffed in my office the time burden has become rather significant. I have cut back to only three games at the moment. If it wasn't for this work thing and I could be the KING all day!

Game 8 is out today and the return day is 22nd July, giving a turnaround of 24 days. That is quite fast, the slowdown may be over.

Perhaps, but the game took 2 weeks to process. (I'm sure my long turn didn't help that!)
I do hope we're getting back to more normal turn arounds.

Guilty. I envision long and complicated schemes to improve my realm requiring Richard to give me long and complicated reasons why it won't work!

Re: game slowdown
Hello chaps!
There is a plan afoot to improve turnaround, but not by too much since on the one hand we don't want turnaround to be as extended as it is now, or so short as to overburden players. To some extent it's a thankless task because what is best for one player is not so good for another!
However, to reduce workload our venerable game Napoleonic Battles is being phased out. The current Battle of Borodino shall be fought to a conclusion, but that that's it for Napoleonic Battles after over 339 games having been played! If a couple of players still want a game, we will run it for them, but shall not advertise or push for players for the system any longer. We do have one player waiting for a game, so if you've played before and want to give it a go again, now is the time to do it.
We also hope to increase work hours in 2-3 months, which will help a lot. Linked to this, our planned Ancient campaign game 'Rome is burning!' won't be released until the turnaround his improved. Development is progressing well on his game, and it will be released, but launching it too soon could just exacerbate the delays.
On the positive note as a business AGEMA still looks in a healthy state, so the main games are not in danger at all!
Anyway, better get back to processing turns... so please forgive us if we don't respond here too often, there's a lot to do.
Onwards and upwards!
Richard
