I've forgotten whether or not Colleges (which can produce 2,000 trained specialists) can also (if not doing anything else) perform research (or is that just Academies?). I could root around trying to look it up, but it's easier to ask those who have the facts at their fingertips... (I do wish there was a comprehensive Index of all the rules and supplements!)

Re: Failing memory
Boarding Schools and Training Colleges can only train up to 2000 recruits at the same time. Not able to do anything else including research.

Re: Failing memory
My understanding is that you can either have:
a) An academy which can do R & D or teach up to a 1,000 students
or
b) A specialist training school which can train up to 2,000 students but can not do research and development.
Think that generally option a) is of more use but you might want to consider a specialist training school for say Priests since with possible exception of improved missionary techniques R & D into religion would seem like a outbreak of trouble waiting to happen.
Or if you are France, Spain or Russia and need to train lots and lots of farmers to get the Norfolk system introduced as quickly as possible.

Re: Failing memory
And slight variants
c) Specialist academies which have greater chance of success when researching in their specialised areas.
d) Academies that receive foreign missions to learn the technology imparted by said mission.

Re: Failing memory
Thanks everyone! I thought that must be the answer, and am now trying to work out why I set up a college and then only used it to process 1,000 (rather than 2,000) recruits. I fear the brain is really going soft (or my typing fingers have a life of their own). Neither is good.

You probably got mixed up with an academy. They can only train 1,000. Only a training college can train 2,000.

Re: Failing memory
Might it be worth starting a separate and suitably labelled thread for this, a potential "sticky", for continuous enlargement??? Just a thought.

Agreed and also wondering whether it would be more user friendly as an alphabetical list of topics with reference to books and page number?
