Gentlemen, (and of course Ladies if any)
is there anyone here who has the time to explain a few things to me about what this game is about? The title 'global wargames campaign' gives an indication, but we need a lot more info than that. Richard has also given me some general feedback but he is coming back on Tuesday and i would like to know a few things before that if possible. I tried buing the rulebook but it gives me shipping cost which means its not on a electronic form and therefore i wont see it this weekend!
More specifically if someone is willing i would like to know a few more about the following:
1. Is the game more RPG or more Wargame oriented? Do you control countries or characters?
2. Are there battles and action every turn, or mostly you build and build for a big event sometime in the future? What is the everage battles/turn?
3. What are generally the objectives ? Are there specific objectives to follow in a quest to power, or is it a bit abstract?
4. Can you defeat and kick a player out of the game, or everyone stays in forever?
5. How do you submit the turns? Is it like writing free-form orders, or 'codes' that are automatically submited into a game engine? Is there a user interface?
6. What does a turn look like? What does a battle report look like?
7. Is it fully email-playable?
8. If anyone here has played Austerlitz PBEM, could he tell us the differences (Austerlitz and its simulated battles is a game we loved)
Since i am asking an awful lot of information, it is fair i also give something in return. I am a Greek wargamer that used to play a lot of PBM in my days, and have played several games with most of the major PBM companies (including KJC, Madhouse, Harlequin, Pagoda, Supersonic etc ) especially back in the 1990's. Most of the games where fully computerised, but i also enjoyed a lot Tribes of Crane that was completely hand moderated. The last ten years or so i slowly moved out of PBM getting involved into online gaming and computer games on my (declining) free time, with the occasional board game on weekends.
The last 2 years we brought together a company of old wargamers from our Greek Wargaming clubs and re-started Austerlitz PBEM in full graphical interface. We are not teenagers anymore but mostly in our 30s (some closing 40s, some with wifes and kids), however the lure of wargaming is too strong to get away. We are now looking for another (preferably, but not necessarily) Napoleonic wargame with lots of action and sneaky diplomacy to all join together and kick each other out. So i am out on the net looking. We generally prefer computerised games with user interface (mainly because there is no room for misundestanding and errors - we are too hard core as tactical wargamers sometimes!) but we will play anything that is a wargame, with good atmosphere and a touch of role-playing, as long as it seems challenging and it gives you many things to do without writing a vague essay every turn. (totally free form though i personally like, its not everyone's cup of tea)
If you would like to give me some info, but dont want to spam here feel free to write to me at makis.xiroyannis@gmail.com
And whether you reply or not, many thanks for reading this far!
Cheers,
Makis
