Does Richard use any of his War Game rules for 18th century battles as the basis for Glory of Kings battles? Or to ask it another way, would reading any of these rules help you understand how to issue orders and fight more effectively?

Re: War Game Rules
No the wargame rules are not used for Glory of Kings battles, which has its own system set up (a complicated mix of spreadsheets, randomness, logic and historical knowledge!).
The only advantage you'd get from having a set such as 18th century Game of War (plug-plug) would be to get a better understanding of how AGEMA views combat in the era, for instance the design notes are quite interesting, but beyond that they are not directly relevant.

Re: War Game Rules
Dear Count-de-Monet,
If you are leading Russian forces against the Swedes I suggest you do not buy a set of the "Ultima Ratio Regum" rules unless you want to really depress yourself since under these rules the Swedish Cavalry Wedge and Infantry Shock Tactics flatten most things they hit.
Of course if you look at the Russian Army List attached to the rules and their proposed morale their is a major question over them actually standing to be hit. As for the Swedish Army List.........be scared, be very very scared.
The Siege Warfare set however includes some good pointers to what upsets troops taking part in a siege and may provide you with some handy hints for trying to keep own troops morale up and depress the foe.

Re: War Game Rules
The Russian High Command has come up with a master plan to handle the Swedes....its defeat, after defeat, after defeat to make them so bored with victories they will just give up.
We havent worked on Plan B just yet, because I am assured Plan A is so perfect. Now, where's my vodka again I need a top up.

Re: War Game Rules
Surely the Russian plan has to be to lure the Swedes into the Ukraine, cut off their supplies and starve them half to death and outnumber them about ten to one and then let the Swedes assault prepared stockades with cannon. Oh hey, thats what really happened at the battle of Poltava!
