Has anyone any helpful experience or views on dealings with NPC rulers of states? I know that commonly Richard will respond to questions or requests directed at such via announcements in the press (though occasionally by diplomatic letter). But I'm wondering if it is actually possible to strike-up treaty arrangements or more complex deals with states that are not being run by a player?

yes you can. Richard will respond just as a player would so be prepared to haggle for what you want and it will not be all plain sailing.....

"Plain-sailing" is the last thing I'd expect from Richard. But at least I know to start early and be prepared to haggle...

Re: Dealing with NPCs
I was told that having a "high honour" helped when dealing with foreign NPC's.
Some of my "characters" being kind, friendly and pious chaps who worked had for the common good have had some really high honour scores. Did it do me any good with foreign NPC types? In a word "No".
While a good reputation and fine words have done me no good at all I have had a bit of success with bribes.

Re: Dealing with NPCs
Interesting... "I" don't have especially high Honour (as yet) so that bit's good news - and bribes (hmmmm). What I'm worrying about (in as much as any play-time is a "worry") is that what I want to negotiate with (probably) an NPC fellow-ruler is something rather complex and far-reaching, probably involving an actual Treaty. However, as a result of feedback here I have put pen to paper and initiated an approach. Maybe I'll keep folks up-dated here on progress (if there is any). Watch this space.
