Recruits and the economy Empty Recruits and the economy

Post by mmcdhoward Tue Sep 24, 2013 6:14 pm

    Hello all,

Been reading the rules and this forum, and I haven't come across an answer to this yet. In the rules it is mentioned that a thriving economy will produce fewer recruits, because there are fewer unemployed men available (or something like that). Does this mean that by keeping our recruit numbers low (effectively putting recruits under government employ) we can produce a boost to the economy brought on by low-unemployment and a large pool of people with spending money?

    Hi mmcdhoward.

If you use your recruits in a way that increases a trade or a business that provides a boost to the economy then yes
but if you use them in your army or in another area not related to the economy then no,
ie although your recruits may be useful as infantry and as such are employed they are actually a drag on your economy as you have to pay their wages, conversely
if you use your recruits as miners say in a copper mine then they are providing your economy with a product to use and sell.

    Cheers.
