G10 - And them crazy, crazy claims - Which do you think is the most weird claim you have seen in Glori?

Nov 1700 Mercurius Politicus has shown up and oh boy are some of the claims and idea's being put forward are getting really weird.

From the start of the paper and in no particular order of oddity:

1) Lord Godolphin is claiming that if the Duke of Savoy was less interested in invading neighbours food would be more plentiful..........How exactly would keeping the Army at home save food? Surely sending them to Milan lowers demand for food in Savoy?

2) The Jacobites are claiming that the the Jacobite Prince of Wales is a dashing adventurer & horseman...........seems he can not even jump a horse over a log without landing on his head.

3) The Dutch are claiming Chinese letters never arrived.........what a slur on Chin messengers it can not be true!

4) Chevalier Claude de Forbin is claiming to be a "Sailor, Merchant-Adventurer, Courtier, Swordsman, Writer & man of Science" while the Duc d'Orleans says he is "such a nice man, a true gentleman" ............How trustworthy are claims that the French Corsairs are now all soft, cuddly and respectable?

5) The Holy Roman Empire seems to by trying turn back history to the days prior to 1300 & revive the claims of the Emperors Frederick I & Frederick II to Imperial Authority over the Italian States. Ignoring 400 years of history and the defeat of Imperial claims in Italy he is once again claiming the Duchy of Milan is part of the Empire. If this is the case Venice, Savoy, Genoa, the Papal States & Frederick II Kingdom of Sicily are also part of the Holy Roman Empire.

Some how do not think the Pope, the King of France, the King of Spain or the Doge of Venice will enjoy these old claims being taken out and the dust blow off.

6) Not mentioned in this months issue unlike last month is the possibilty that some in Spain may favour replacement of the legitimate heirs to the throne of Spain, Duchy of Flanders, Kingdom of Naples & Duchy of Milan by a possible Royal questionable birth Rodrigo de Abello Vizconde de Banderas. The problem with this is that the Pope would have to agree to legitimise the Vizconde, all the Spanish & Naples diets etc would also have to agree & the backlash from disinherited heirs coped with.

7) The Great Moghul is claiming to be a Shia Muslim and has ordered celebrations to mark the martyrdom of Hussain. This has gone down like a ton of bricks with his Muslim followers who are Sunni or Sufi.

Well put Kingmaker... I do believe that G10 is about to heat up and get real interesting for a period of time.

The odd claim for me is the claim that hasn't been made...the Stuarts are doing a good job-if that's the word-of claiming they are somehow Kings of England...but once we have all stopped laughing at that...why do they not also claim the Scottish throne...after all they are only johnny-come-latelys to the Southern Throne...

Not forgetting the Japanese saying they'd not heard from the Dutch, so they gave the Deshima rights to another instead.

I wish the Japanese had contacted the Rozwi, it would have given us ample opportunity to try out this sailing malarkey the rest of the World's on about.

We might have to sacrifice a bull, at Khami, to try and aid the quick recovery of the young Prince ... Unless we don't, as it might interfere with any future English trade, if we make contact with the Comoro Islands and find a common language to work with. Maybe a horse, instead??

Something tells me that if you do sacrifice a bull for said young pretender, your new canoes and fishing boats might suddenly find themselves having a visit from the RN

Well, I could do with some of those gold coins he was giving away...

Sounds as though those Stuarts are having some issues of their own. It might just be Stuart soon enough.

G10 is certainly looking like it will be a rather hot place soon enough.

I hope G10 doesn't get too hot, at least not in Rozwi's neck of the woods, as I haven't looked into drought precautions yet. And if that happens the (normally meagre) harvest will go to pot and then lion will need to be on the menu. Any one know any good recipes for dangerous wild animal??
