Is anyone willing/able to fill me in a little on the state of slavery in Game VII? Which nations own/trade slaves, for instance?

Re: Slavery in Game VII
Any one can trade slaves as to who "owns" them no one really, although the Ashante have the monopoly I believe...

Re: Slavery in Game VII
I believe any nation can trade in slaves should they wish to invest in the trade, I guess traditionally in Africa - although slaves can be made of any people.
The Spanish, Portuguese and French would have the obvious advantage.
It would also be a benefit, in order to develop a slave trade to have a trading post/port in the naton/continent of trade eg Africa.

And possibly a very good place to put it would be on the Gold Coast. I remember the game map for this region, and there are several trading forts along that stretch of coast, all near Accra.

Spain uses slaves, France tries not to. The HWIC trade them. In a previous game slaves were available from Mozambique.

Re: Slavery in Game VII
I believe that in game 7 the largest slavers are:
- the Dutch
- the English
- the Spanish (but much more expensive)
- the Asante
- the Ottomans

Re: Slavery in Game VII
Hmm. That is very interesting> The Dutch?? How does that work? And what happens to your honour score if you try to increase or remove slavery?
I was thinking about championing the abolition of slavery but fear that by acting outside my historical parameters my honour would fall.
(or is that a new post topic?)
However your above is appreciated

The Dutch will trade in anything!
As for what happens to your honour score - you'll have to try it and find out. That's kind of the point of the game, no...? ;-)

Re: Slavery in Game VII
Indeed - the Dutch will trade anything but seem a tad moribund at present the DEIC collapsed early on and the UDP has been inactive for a while (even if there is a new player in charge...)
As to the honour - you are sooo right but i wondered if anyone had experience of losing honour whilst acting in an honourable way? That's what's happening to me and I wonder if there is a spy in my camp, that two or more players are briefing against me. Has anyone had experience of this and how did they deal with it.
Or am I just paranoid

Re: Slavery in Game VII
I used to play the Asante in another game, so can give a different insight. The Asante gather slaves from surrounding tribes at a set price, then sell them on at a higher price. The attitude of the Asante player does seem to affect the price of slaves.
Spain and England do seem to be the most economically-dependent on slaves because of their sugar plantations. But I don't think either has a colony on the slave coast (might be wrong on this).
If you make an investment in the slave trade as an ordinary trade investment then that is probably the simplest way of doing it and anyone can do that.
I've never tried to abolish the slave trade, but I guess any restriction on supply would force up the price of slaves and affect Spanish/English colonial trade profits.
