Re: Advanced Guide
Under the section on honour, will there be any tie in to type of government/rule. I personally believe this should have an impact on style of play for the position, as well as benefit to honour standing.
Never played the position, or know much factually about the nation, but as an example I believe the King of Denmark was a "dictator"? That he answered to no Parliament ? To a very slightly lesser degree Peter the Great seemed to do pretty much as he pleased! By contrast a nation such as England was run by Parliament but with the monarchy needing to be considered.
I have no experience likewise of some of the Far Eastern nations (eg Chinese Provinces, Japan) which have added so much colour to the LGDR games.
If players were more aware of this impact (actually maybe I should have posted this under beginners, not advanced....Im sure experienced players know all this) the game would carry a more historical feel.

Re: Advanced Guide
At the moment it is a general guide (The Honour section) on how your country works, but I am toying with a full blown bit about the countries and how to get your honour up, but as some one just remaked to me "one step at a time"

Re: Advanced Guide
The scope of the advanced guide seems pretty comprehensive. I think I would caution against trying to find a blue print for each position though.
The game is historic until the first turn, then really it's up to you. You could turn England into a dictatorship if you wanted to, might take time and few tears but it could happen.
Likewise anything goes for any nation, preparation, loyal followers and few soldiers and and the nation will bend to your will. Keep the poor fed, the rich wealthy and the army busy and you'll get whatever you want!
Honour is so complex I gave up trying to work it our ages ago...I just do what I think reads well in the papers, amongst other things and it seems to move up slowly and if it drops too low, gather your loyal nobles around you and kill a few rebels, that should bring em all back in line!

Re: Advanced Guide
I do think the Little Corporal makes a very good point!
I must admit I was at first tempted to offer suggestions on things I think are important, or have worked for me, and then thought....I want everyone else to be in ignorant bliss so I keep my perceived advantage. Its probably all garbage anyway but it panders to my own meglomania
In terms of my suggestions for the pro's and con's of a position, I didnt mean that to be too in depth, and only cover a starting position, which as the Little Corporal says is all up for change as soon as turn one of 1700 takes place.

Ha! i was just thinking the same - about maintining some secrets to keep the imagined advantage! (what a competitive/secretive/suspicious lot we are!)
However yes I like the idea of some starting position outlines.

Re: Advanced Guide
Can you play multiple positions within the same game? I noticed that you played Poland and Russia in game 3. I'm assuming you dropped one and picked up another? Surely you are not allowed to play multiple positions within the same game?
Obviously, I have not played the game, yet!

Re: Advanced Guide
I look forward to seeing what you have to offer here. I have often asked for your help in looking over this or that. I have played/play the following in my two year tenure:
Denmark (Game V) Fixed army, grew economy, and married the princess. Alas, I got the chance to try and fix a very messed up England.
United Dutch Provinces (Game III) Still trying to get things working as they should, but believe that all will be well soon.
England (Game II) Lord what a mess this place was, and in many respects still is We seem to be fixing the mess and have the army and navy back right. Now is the economy and we can begin to have some fun.

My memory does fail me occasionaly, even at my tender age !!. Kingmaker in Game 4 you played Venice. Did my Russian ambassador get murdered in your capital ? I know I sent a renegade band of Cossacks to Sicily in revenge.

Re: Advanced Guide
right thats it - you're going into the pigeon hole marked "mischief maker"
Its a shame Game 4 died. That was the first time I had a position from the very start and it was a really enjoyable game.

Re: Advanced Guide
I was really pleased with what was achieved with Russia, and in a short space of time, I managed to get the trade revenue up from something like £100k per year to something like £7m.
Trouble was, the success of Game 4 went to my head a bit (!) and my next position in Game 5 suffered as a result. Got WAY too bold

Re: Advanced Guide
Ok the advanced guide is now some 4250 words and just about finished. I will be sorting out a proof read soon and sending it off to Flagship. The beginners guide has just been published in Flagship so hopefully this one will be out soon as well.
