Your navies set to take the weather guage? This book explians why that might lead to distaster, especially if your fleet is acting defensively.
This book an an excellent overview of the tactics of fighting at sea including chapters on subterfuge, winward and leeward tactics, signalling and fleet tactics.
Having read this then watched Master and Commander again, I realised I'd been had by Patrick O'Brien. When Captain Jack sails round his enemy to get the "advantage" of the weather guage he is achieving nothing more than being able to sail quickly to his doom...and this book explains why.
This will definately help your naval regulations...assuming Richard D Watts had read it too!
