I just created a wiki for The Glory of Kings!

Anyone can log in, and edit it, with all kinds of useful information.

just put up a page about game 3 on it and will continue to update it as the game goes on. Any one want to do one for game 8?

Once I've completed my game 8 turn, I'll start to organize the wiki a bit. Set up categories, and some easy way of navigating.

I might even have a pop at our wikipedia article also.

BTW have added some coats of arms to each of the pages so far not really to imply any thing just to give it some colour....

Having just finished my game 8 turn, I e-mailed Richard to ask for confirmation as to what, if anything, we can wikify and add to the site.

If we get Richard's permission, then I would like to wikify:

* some of the rulebook
* all the in game maps
* all in game newspapers (I have a plan to automate this...)

All this material is copyrighted, hence my e-mail to Richard. What I want to avoid is the game histories becoming POV articles. We should try to keep opinion out of these articles, and report simply the facts.

Beginner's Guide is now wikified.

Also, added some categories:

* Game Summaries
* Rules & Guides

All game summary pages should be named "Game x", so that they all look nice in the category!

well done do not forget the Advanced guide as well

I think archiving the newspapers would be a HUGE advantage.

As one of the late joiners to an early game, the lack of detailed game history has really hampered my ability to really integrate into the game.

Looks like plenty of work coming up. So, now we need to organise the delivery and conversion of in game newspapers.... Conversion I should be able to do, I'll start work on an automated system tonight. Who has an archive?

I have game 8 from the start but game 3 is in paper format.

Automatic conversion is proving problematic. Trying to find a decent enough format to get the text out, ready for conversion. And this will only work on papers which are recent.

I might have to see if Richard has them archived.

At one point we were going to speak to Richard about this idea. Even to the point of trying to get them placed on a disc or something so that AGEMA could put the up for a price. I would purchase a disc of back issues so that I could have a great background of the games that I am in.

Perhaps, it is time to take it to Richard.

I would be willing to do some of the work, but that would require him to send paper files and that could cost.

I have sent him an email asking if it is possible and does he have the back issues, awaiting a responce....

I have also sent him an e-mail requesting the exact same thing haha

I've been looking into how to convert PDF straight into text ready for the wiki, but its not so easy. While it is easy enough to automate Acrobat to open the file, and export the file, getting it into a nice format where I can convert the text into "wiki-text" is not so easy. And even when I do this, some text comes out, and some doesn't. So, it might require some manual editing.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be welcome to hear them!

Well, made some progress yesterday. Found a website which converts PDF to HTML better than Acrobat does lol

From this, I plan on parsing the HTML, and then writing a wiki article ready for uploading as a copy and paste. I installed the tools I'll need last night, and I am pretty sure the classes I need will do the trick

ok he does have all copies archived and can do this but it wont be for a while as it will take time to get it all sorted but he is intending to do it.....

Latest news...

I have given up trying to write an application to automatically create wiki pages from the PDFs. The PDF layout is horrible, and is horrible for parsing.

But, I have started to manually publish the papers from game 8. I'll finish off the remaining papers tonight, until Clash of the Titans comes on...

Here come the newspaper publishing rules...

There is a naming scheme to be followed:

Month Year (Game Number), for example:

January 1700 ( 8 )

Once the page is created, there is a template you need to follow. Take a look at January 1700 for game 8 to get the idea.

Add category!! Don't forget to add the newspaper to the Game No. category. Again, take a look at January 1700 ( 8 ) to see what I mean.

I'll keep an eye on papers that get posted, and make corrections if they're needed, but it should all be relatively straight forward.
