A little over a year ago my wife ended up in the ICU with a sudden blood illness that was extremely dangerous. She lost all her platelets and could have bleed to death.
It was the most terrifying week of my life. Fortunately, it passed as inexplicably as it arrived, apparently an uncommon occurrence, since usually when it arrives in adults it stays.
But I'll tell you that I listen to "O Fortuna" in the Carmina Burina with a much deeper sense of its meaning these days!
