I have read somewhere in one of the suppliments that Austria morgaged some of it's towns to Poland. Can't for the life of me find the article again can anyone help me on this one. Plus an explanation as to why Poland has some Austrian towns in the first place.

Re: Towns for sale.
Do you mean the Zips Towns? The Article was in the Carte Blanche supplement.
Under the Treaty of Lubowla of 1412 the 16 towns of
the Zips/Spisz/Szepes region were mortgaged by
Austria to Poland. Return of these would not happen
until a loan was repaid, the loan repayment needing
to be for ‘sixty times 37,000 Prague groschen.’ The
groschen was a silver coin, which means this
translates into – by 1700 – a payment of £222,000
(since £1 is the equivalent of ten silver coins).
The Zips region is on the map due west of Presov,
Kaschau, and Kosice.

Re: Towns for sale.
Looking at the map, I suppose they are tecnically in Hungarian territory, or are they counted as Austrian cities leased to Poland, If Austria were to pay hte monies would the towns become Austrian or Hungarian? In most games I guess not a problem , but in the game I am in Hungary is independant of Austria, so it may confuse matters a little.

Re: Towns for sale.
An interesting point, I suppose if Austria is paying for them they would pass to Austria, regardless of Hungary...of course, I wonder if Poland could refuse to accept the money?
I have always found the Zips Towns situation odd but then Eastern European history/politics is something I know very very little about.

Re: Towns for sale.
I suppose the best way to find out is to get the person controlling Austria to offer the monies to Poland. Either the money is lost altogrther, or Austria has an enclave in Hugarian territory, which may cause them a few headaches as there entire country will ahve been outflanked.
