A relatively recent return Empty A relatively recent return

Post by Guest Mon Sep 10, 2018 3:45 pm

    Hi All,
I first played this in 1990, at the age of 14. Played up to the mid 90’s. Rejoined 18 months ago, after almost 2 decade hiatus. Thoroughly enjoying my return, with Genoa in 10, and recently Spain in 9. Based in Singapore, now a citizen, but originally from UK.

Hello A relatively recent return Wavey_zpsdcc65950

You've nine years on me, with my debut to Agema games in 1999. Funny how a lot of us players are still actively involved with Richard's games.

I think I was Savoy in Game 3.

Duke Alberto Carrero. His eldest daughter got seduced and eloped with a Scots noble, pawned a bust of the Duke of Savoy and was slumming it in Europe.
I can also remember making a fool of myself with Poland (possibly you Kingmaker?). Where Poland was at war and had suffered a harvest failure, I was asked to supply grain and took it on myself to dispatch a Savoy infantry division to give aid - which I was told, in no uncertain terms in a private letter from Poland, was both insulting and not necessary. (To be fair, I didn't have a clue what it was that I was doing in LGDR and the C18th wasn't my area of expertise.)

Thankfully I'm now, more, educated on the C18th - though European royal families, politics and religion still confuses me enough to choose to play an African or a Chinese position Laughing

I started the game with about 4,000,000 and no idea about what to do with the cash (this was before all the supplements) so I invested the lot and ended up with a massive trade income which was nice.

Now I sometimes get carried away and use to little on trade investment since I know very well what I can spend the money on.

If people like a game with huge amounts of cash and nothing much to spend it on they should try Scabble.........the HEIC is currently paying millions of pounds every month in tax to HM Govt and is paying out £120M per annum in dividends to its shareholders as well a Christmas bonus to its workers.

I like to think of the HEIC as the favourite share of elderly maiden aunts, widows, orphans, clergy and members of the House of Lords and even the Royal Estate and that being mean to the HEIC is equal to stealing the bread out of the mouths of babies and orphans . Well that what I keep informing the Prime Minister of Britannia!

Lord Derby says he believes my claims but for some reason I do not understand various player and Richards NPC's seem to doubt my claims about the God fearing, paternal (esp to young and pretty widows), kind and cuddly nature of the senior leaders of the HEIC. As witnessed by the fact that I am lower on the prestige list that a bunch of Opium dealers and the Czar..........many of whom do not even play cricket!

Yes, I believe I did have a decent trade income by the time I pulled stumps. So much has of course changed in the game since then, but so much is the same. All my letters were handwritten back in the day, which must have been painful for some to translate....
& I my perspective has certainly changed, with a change in country, citizenship, religion & career over the intervening two decades. Anyways, back to my order drafting...
