Re: Scramble
revvaughan - I agree the initial resources are scanty. Best way to build Prestige is an international aid program - donations of cash, arms and miltary support.
I can't confirm this officially, you understand, but by supporting such right-thinking and defender-of-the-faith rulers such as Emperor Franz Josef of Osterreich bring huge Prestige benefits.
Really truly...
Trust me - I work for a bank...

Re: Scramble
What, you got resources? Must be the Brits!
The rest of us are starving.... -)
BTW, exactly which faith would Emperor Josef be supporting?

Re: Scramble
G'day nazareth - the Emperor Franz Josef asks me to gently point you to the Edict of Tolerance of 1782, when religious tolerance was made part of the Austrian Constitution. True, it was mainly Christian faiths but was extended to the Jewish community, which for those days was remarkably fair. Few other European nations had gone that far (some religions were state-mandated and the punishment for secret worship was death). True, Austria didn't extend it to Buddhists, Hindoo, Mother Earth or Hare Krishna, but probably would have protected their rights even so!
The question of "which faith?" is too narrow a question. Perhaps the question should centre around defending the right to believe without persecution? Something to think about...

RE: Scramble
Ah yes, it is a somewhat older document and we were not sure if it had not been superceded by some later policy within your government.
I'm guessing the religious tolerance for the Jews you speak off is were their spoken and written language had to be replaced with the 'national' language, that official documents and school texts could not be printed in hebrew and that Jewish schools would be required to be strictly observed by the government, etc. Hmmm, yet I do confess that it is better that what they are used to and you are quite right, for Austria, remarkably fair. -)

Re: Scramble
First turn due date is right around the corner. I can't wait to see what Richard does with this game and the many twists and turns that may be out there.
Question for those playing the game...
How many letters are you sending out to other nations with your turn?

Re: Scramble
I must admit, the game looks interesting. I was impressed with the detail with regards weapons.
I hope some of you who are playing will provide feedback over the next turn or two, I'd be most interested in reading what you guys have to say.

Re: Scramble
First turn all set to go, just struggling with capacity of transport ships. I know they can hold arms for 10000 men but what about the men (and horses and artillary) themselves?

Hi Rowey and welcome to Scramble for Empire. One battalion per transport. 2 transports = 2 battalions.

Re: Scramble
It should also be noted that the weapons discussed are for the addition of new arms to units in the provinces. This does not apply to the weapons that a unit is armed with. In fact... The 10,000 weapons are not to be carried at the same time as the other unit.

Nazareth... Where in the rules did you find the rule on transport capacity? I must be blind as I have not yet been able to find it.

Re: Scramble
Good deal... I couldn't find it in the rules and I was using a much larger numer (TGOK 3 Battalion Rule) instead of this number.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Q&A available?
nazareth wrote:I didn't, I asked Richard... -)
G'day Rrichard,
Just so that everyone has the same info, is there any chance of a combined Q&A? I'd be happy to compile if you'd like.
