It happened in game 3. Don't know if it happened in any other game.

Re: Game 8
At the start of each game, James Stuart is in France. He has the Irish brigade with him. This consists of about 8F and 2h. So for any attack to take place on England, France has to agree to it. France can destroy the Stuarts overnight, if they so wish. I suppose this is why players are put off taking the Jacobite position.Fighting England is hard enough, but you also have to get French backing, and early on in a game most players like to take a few years to stabilse and build up their nations and forces. So this timescale would also put Jacobite players off.

Re: Game 8
I understand why most wouldn't find the position appealing, but it has worked at least once. Just curious if it is going to be a potential issue in game 8.

Re: Game 8
The problem taking the Jacobite position is, it is all down to luck. If France decides to be friends with England, or an active English player decides to do a deal with France, to gain the arrest of the Stuart clan, then as the jacobite player, it is game over and you are stuffed. I suspect that the game where a jacobite rebellion worked, may also be down to an unactive English position. Or, an unskilled English player, knowing very little about the jacobite situation. As a footnote. I believe that as Portugal, your aunt,Catherine Braganza,is a Stuart by marriage. So you could offer a sancuary to the Stuart clan. Now there is a thought for you Deacon? With regards to game eight. I am not sure if the jacobite position has been taken. Usually the answer is, no.

Re: Game 8
let the Stuart Family have a right ol family kick-off....
King William's wife Mary (dead) was a Stuart
Princess Anne of Denmark-Norway is a Stuart - Protestant
Prince William, Duke of Gloucester, Prince of Denmark-Norway is a Stuart-Protestant
Dowager Catherine Braganza is a Stuart - Catholic but by marriage (Queen to King Charles I) and remained popular in England
The Mother of Prince George Ludwing, Princess Sophia of the Palatine is a Stuart - Protestant.
And then of course good old James and his son Edward residing in Paris. Forget the Spanish Succession, the Stuarts could cause a European wide conflict with just their own infighting !

Re: Game 8
So - is there to be a Jacobite uprising in G8 too then? I'm not so sure how my position would feel about that....

Re: Game 8
Well, apparently no one knows if the position is taken. I guess we'll just have to see. If it is an non-player position, then most of us can rest easier knowing we don't have to form an opinion on the matter.

Not much, it's what happens when a player gets tired and forgets what he's done

That's why I only play in one game at a time. Otherwise I forget who did what and in which dimension as it were.

Re: Game 8
I make a rule of never putting pen to paper after 1am. It doesn't stop all the cock-ups as I've just found to my cost, but it helps.
Since England and The UDP are one, where do we send our mail?
I can see no reported activity by the French. Are they active?

Re: Game 8
to confirm England and the UDP are NOT one, and should be written to separately
UDP is King William III
England is Lord Pembroke, Lord President of the Council
(although King William III is obviously still King of England)

Is anyone else as baffled as I about the Sultan funding the Armenian Orthodox? What's that about?
