Game 8

So as Game 8 has started today i have a few questions to players who have already play a game from turn one onwards.

- How many letters do you send on the first turn normally?

- As i play a Monarchy should i name Heirs, Sons or Wives this turn or will Richard do this during the game?

- Do you place your starting forces in on city or do you spread them out? And how many fortresses do you build in the beginning?

- Is it advisable to fill out all trade slots on the first game turns?

Not seen mine yet....

I would send out feelers to those nations who you feel are of use and those you want to avoid a war with.

I would hang on a while naming heirs etc

Forces depend on the nation each to their own.

I would carefully consider where you are going to be a mjor player in trade and place them acordingly.

Yes i got Game 8 this morning per email. A nice thing is that the nation and the income & spending sheet are now jointed in one pdf document.

ooohhh I am wanting mine on email I may drop Richard a line stating that.....

BTW no more advice for game 8 as i am playing in it

I asked Richard for clarification, so thought I'd pass it on.

You can place your forces, name advisors, and do correspondence/newspaper things. First turn actions intentionally restricted.

just got back from a shortish break away to be able to look at the game files in some detail.

Have to say, excellent work by Richard on the maps. Its great being able to fully understand who has sovereign claim on want (even if it will begin to change very quickly!!).

All the best to everyone involved and I look forward to exchanging pleasantries or rattling sabres.

So we are not allowed to build things (academies, shipyards, sewers etc), raise units (town watch, rat catchers and other not needing an army camp), or send out prospectors?

My understanding from the email was that no, you're not allowed. This is sort of an extended set up turn before your first real turn designed to allow you to customize your starting position, but not intended to do actual actions.

So we can also not ask questions to our newly created ministers or can make trade investments?

My email to Richard:

I'd interpret that as just personalizing the set up a bit, and that your family and other details will come with the 'final' set up that includes the ministers/appointments you've made. I don't think you get to set your family up unless you're in a position where the history isn't really known.

The first proper game turn can't happen quick enough! I want it to be now :-)

I'm in games 6 and 7 too, but it's this one I'm really keen to see moving along now.

It would be interesting to see how this game develop, but for the moment it is definitely Game 6 that is most interesting for me with 7 gaining speed.
I hope that game 8 does not kill off any of the other games.

I wish we could read the other games newspapers.

I'm interested to hear people say G6 is more interesting just now? I personally feel G7 is more interesting (to me) with the French vs. England War. G6 I find to be more settled....unless you're a Morrocan.

Though that obviously depends on your position. I hope that in G8 I can enjoy a period of peace and alliances, but dare say I'll end up involved in something.

I find G3 to be intersting with possible fun on the horizon....

For those who were around at the start of other games, does Richard always do the spanish succession year 1?

Yes he does gives all major european powers some thing to do at the start!
