trade missions to capital or port city Empty trade missions to capital or port city

Post by one grain of grain Sat Jun 22, 2013 10:25 am

    Hi All.

Having never sent a trade mission to date I was wondering if anyone has any ideas if it matters if the mission is sent to a large port city rather than the nations capital city
and if there is a limit to trade missions in a trade area, ie like the Levant.

I've never noticed that much of a difference in effect to be honest though if my resources are limited I have preferred to have them in national capitals and only had them in other cities if money allows

bear in mind that trade missions do better and your returns if you put them in the same area you are investing in....

Trade missions are quite important as they develop extra contacts, I have found you can use your missions to support your policies of a specific product in a specific region. Like Textiles, Slaves, Fur, Clothing and other items that could improve your economy.

I hadn't realized that in game the levant refers to the whole med, not just well, the levant.

So I closed a bunch of missions that weren't in the traditional levant, and after my trade minister freaked out on me, I reopened them all the following turn and a couple more besides and I still got a fairly sizeable ding in my trade income the following year.

So, it seems they matter quite  bit!

So when you send a trade mission is it best to state in the orders a specific trade that you think would produce the greater profit ?.
or leave it as a generic trade mission.

IE  Order a trade mission to Paris to support my trade in the Levant, with emphasis on the textile trade.

Not really work like that.  In your yearly budget done in Jan you invest all your dosh and recruits in each area and assign products.

Trade missions just sell anything that you are selling, think of it as a trade fair showing your wares and taking orders.

Ok kingmaker that makes sense, your reply also clarified another point that had been nagging me about only having 5 trade spots.
I was thinking that if I wanted another trade I had to establish it and it would get into the fifth spot when its revenue over-took the previous fifth spot.
Ok so tell me, I have developed fishing as a fifth trade spot to feed my masses but also as a trade in that fifth spot. if at a latter date I want to establish another better
trade for revenue would the fishing trade be lost or would it stay viable as a non listed trade ? if its lost as a trade if I then ordered the fish only as a food source!
would that still keep it working.

I got burned having had a trade mission in an area where i didn't trade thinking I could expand it with recruits and some cash as an investment and was told I couldn't do that: I needed the investment first.

Later my investment went to another continent when only 1 page of my 'orders' arrived with Agema.

All too late to recover I'm afraid.

Anyhow does anyone else have stories of disaster following a failed reply?

    (Bet I win!)

To start you off I missed with a mega game napoleonic battle order when I had a load of Frenchies routing but my English cavalry were massively outnumbered and facing a heavier french cavalry corps coming up on their flank.

Orders went astray and bam! the initiative and half my command was gone and the rest went shortly afterwards.

Due to drop-outs the CIC gave me a few Spaniards to order about. They simply refused or wavered at my instructions, "Oi! Juan, chargo el Froggies old son!" trade missions to capital or port city 2962972013

    Cant imagine why?

We won but you cannot imagine how frustrating that was.........for 10 turns......Embarassed

Probably not as frustrated as the French Reserve Cavalry (mostly Dragoons with a few Lights) who saved the French Right from the dastardly English Cavalry (Mostly Lights but with some Guards) and then went on to outflank the allies and attack from the rear. Routing a lot of Spanish Cavalry in the process. But then found out the battle was lost:affraid:

Was that you?? I think it was - you will never never be as frustrated as i was paying for turns that simply had the troops not just ignore me but actively disintegrate when I spoke to them! However looking at my life thats a fair allegory.
