Poaching of the Haggi Royale is punishable by being hung by the noggin In the Grassmarket while a band of bagpipers perform The Proclaimers Greatest Hits, in your right ear

I'm not sure I'm getting the punishment. If they're making you listen to the proclaimers on bagpipes, isn't killing you a kindness?

Doesn't more than 30 minutes risk a breach in the space-time continuum into the endless void beyond the stars where nameless horrors dwell?
But then, I guess this is Scotland so I'm not sure you'd notice...
If you keep it up too long though, you're going to end up with Americans, and then you're be regretting it.

The Americans probably need to be very careful, or they could also be deep fried!
Always thought Bagpipes were created to imitate the mating call of the wild Haggis to lure them out of the thick Gorse so the huntsman can bring them down.

Very true, and it explains a lot about Scotland

My game 8 turn was 2 weeks after the due date, so I would expect it middle of next week.

Re: Game 10
Yea, Game 8 is due back in next week and, from memory, last time around I received Game 10 the day before Game 8 was due back.
I'm thinking Game 10 will arrive Friday 16th at the latest (all things being well with Agema).

Re: Game 10
As expected, turn landed this morning. Nothing The slowly spreading chaos that is the Spanish succession crisis continues to spread.
Nothing earth shattering, but notable events:
-England declares de facto war on Spain with a failed attempt to invade Gibraltar.
-Queen Mary II has given birth to an heir
-French pirates continue to attach spanish ships who are returning the favor.
-French give the Japanese 1M gold!?! Going to have to do an awful lot of trade in pokemon to justify that...

Re: Game 10
Question for the many smarter historians here. In the Rome peace conference, France said they'd sign the fourth(?!) partition treaty. My research indicates only 2 partition treaties. Am I missing something? Or is this just a reference to some in-game treaty that nobody has bothered to mention at the peace conference yet?

Re: Game 10
May 1702 turn and Rozwi did great. We've successfully captured a village of 15 people [you couldn't make this up! ]
Oh, and some European chap gave another European chap some cream for a sore bottom ... something about riding a fence?!
And Some French lass is really a lad, or some't! Molly, or Milly, or Mildred... We don't have cross-dressing in Rozwi, thankfully (it hasn't been invented yet).

Not to be overly pedantic, but a lot of native societies had more open minds on these issues. It was the coming of western civilization that changed much of that. There are multiple native societies that had 3rd genders.
Not that this needs a place in the game, but what would appal a european of the time, might not strike a native african as equally upsetting...
A quick google didn't turn up any specific evidence in the Rowzi, but a number of other African tribes did have them. I'm more familiar with them in the Native American tribes where they were relatively common.
Here's a link to a short article documenting some of these in native american societies.

Sounds like Richard is using those weighted dice again! Just out of interest were you given the gender and age demographic of those lucky 15 villagers ?
I'm thinking maybe all children, women and old men.
I hear that the Venetians can provide you with all the tips to X-dressing.

The area of (modern-day Botswana and Zambia) Rozwi's looking to subjugate isn't densely populated, to be fair. It's mainly the flora and fauna, and the huge areas of wetlands that I'm after. Tonga (npc-nation) has 30,000 souls and it looks like the main population hub for the area, but I'm not invading them and am seeking to become inter-married/protector of their royal family.
I'm guessing that saying all that wouldn't be wise in a lot of other positions, but Rozwi only has friends, so far, in-game, and has a practical outlook on Africa and other player's ideas.
As to my cross-dressing line, yesterday. Obviously it was said in jest, in case anyone reading thought I was airing my own bigoted views. I can assure you it wasn't the case. I've played homo-sexual characters in Agema games before, employed gay characters who I wanted to be in love with a 'Molly' (this was part of a plot that didn't get realised, playing W.I. Pirates, where I could blackmail important npc characters). Just thought I best clarify. [I was trying to be funny, yesterday]

I must praise such a noble invasion! to protect the environment for future generations, with all that flora and fauna just plaster the area with bee-hives and you could soon capture the world Honey market.
All bow before Changamire "The Bee Keeper" Dombo II. surely the wisest of all Rozwi rulers. Set your Witch doctors to discover new plants and medicines ? who knows the results.

Re: Game 10
My apologies if my comment came off as sounding like I was suggesting some bigotry. I certainly wasn't, and didn't and don't think the joke about cross dressing was anything other than a joke.
I have a minor interest in native culture and this aspect of it interests me.
I was merely attempting to share my interest in the diversity of ways that some native societies have of adapting to these kinds of issues and finding roles for people. I thought others might be interested too.
I did say I was being pedantic. I wasn't kidding.

Deacon. No worries. I spotted what you'd written and understood fully (as you've reinforced with the above comment).
My fault. I should have indicated that I was aiming my clarification to casual readers of this forum (you never know who might be reading this) or other player's who've not had contact with me yet. If you're in the UK and a wargamer / table top gamer and attend the shows, I'm pretty easily recognised as I work for one of the traders. I really should watch what I say, as things have a habit of coming back to haunt you nowadays.

Salt is another good trading commodity for native African trade.

Re: Game 10
Yes, one of the first things we did was strike gold.
If I'm being honest, it isn't really paying for itself never mind making a profit. From what it looks like on the 1701 trade report, most of our trade is with native kingdoms or internal and gold isn't that important to those markets. Foreign merchants have nowhere to visit at the present time, as there's no port anywhere in Rozwi territory and they'd probably be the main purchasers of gold. It doesn't help that Rozwi's current technological level of mining is equivalent to Bronze Age Europe. We're paying double wages as danger money, and it's going to take nearly 4 years, all told, to discover rockfall protection.
In truth, I'm looking to expand the localised trade and concentrate on the native market. Specialising in commodities that will sell in-land and out of reach of the European, Arab or Indian traders that frequent the coasts. One benefit for Rozwi, is the fact that the area of Africa I'm talking about it's population is migratory and thinly scattered, making it even more difficult for non-Native merchants to corner any market. In this instance, the colour of your skin does prove a plus, as its already been seen in-game.
Still can't make gold bear a profit, mind.
