Jason wrote:...and for something completely different, I wonder what you would do with a bunch of ex-Mamelukes and Janissary slaves...

Napoleon brought a Mameluke Guard back from Egypt and according to my Osprey Book on the Armies of Poland the King of Poland just prior to our period had a Janissary Guard Unit of ex Ottoman deserters so if Hanover wanted to add some exotic units to its order of Battle I dont see any reason why not.

Rather than starting a "hug a frenchie" campaign you could start a "hug a Mameluke" campaign.

Since Richard has always had a soft spot for the Janissary corp he may even decide that any survivors of the Sultan's genocidal campaign against them are super hard (like Sweedes in G7) and really good troops. Richard could very well do this just to spite all those Ottomans players driven mad by the Corp.

Alternatively, ex Janissary types could be used to open up Coffee Shops & Kabab houses across Europe.

And what have you got against Ferret's? Cute, cuddly little things much more hugable than the French or the Jannissary Corp Very Happy

I am more interested in saving the camels, I have a nice warm desert for them in Australia, If the Jannissaries are included then that will be alright as well.

Maybe they can hunt down the Tasmanian devils.

Ok I can see why George Junior wants his own Janissary and/or Mamluke Corp to add to the Hanoverian order of Battle but what the XXXXX does he want a Camel Corp for?

Does Hanover's famous Sandy Beaches and Rolling Sand Dunes need to be patrolled in case by some miracle the French slip by the mighty Hanovarian Navy??????

Or are we back on the subject Hanovarian Susauges and Pies again?

If the new player has raised taxes again then France must be in a spot of bother, That is twice now in as many years.

Post by J Flower Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:25 pm

Eventually got my turn, by the sounds of it the rest of you are lying under the table before I get to open the post box.

So, France needs the fun police to pay him a visit.

Prussia seems to have almost smoothed over some of the cracks in the diplomatic disaster that is the HRR. Just the courtcase, The looney in Baden to shoot.

Baden is about to be annexed by France, or was that leave the HRE, & become part of France.

The Sultan is running out of people to Crucify, once Jerusalem has fallen will he sort out the nasty rebels in Cyprus, plus he still has a score to settle with the French.

Post by Guest Sun Oct 21, 2012 8:06 pm

Ok, still getting use to my new position and working out who my neighbours are. Does anyone know who owns Emden? Its on the coast, just west of Bremen and is in a territory called "East Frisia" (according to the map).

The same applies to the town of Minden (to the west of Hanover town) and Goslar (south of Brunswick town).

I'm just trying to establish diplomatic relations with my neighbours so working out who owns what so I send ambassadors to the right people.

Question regarding game 2 - Page 8 Empty Re: Question regarding game 2

Post by J Flower Fri Oct 26, 2012 10:14 am

Prussia has an historical claim on Emden , but it hasn't been realised to date.

Beleive( a dangerous thing) Minden is Hanoverian, Goslar to be Brunswick,

Isn't the Duchy of Lauenburg a part of the Hanoverian-Brunswick Empire?

Back in 1700 (game time not historical) Mecklenberg was joined with Brunswick to make it a playable position, not sure which bits went to whom when the territories were annexed by Hanover & Prussia.

Ahh, I did wonder on Emden.

I will check with Richard on Minden and Goslar, on the maps I got in setup they were show as seperate and no indication of being part of the might Hanoverian-Brunswick Empire.

Lauenburg isn't either, Richard explained to me recently that there was an error on some maps saying it was. Apparently it is independent and ruled by Prince Clarence of Holstein and includes Hamburg and Lubeck; to confuse things more, Clarence doesn't rule Holstein (which is Danish I think).

Again looking at my game set up, no indication I have any part of Meckleburg..add to list to check...

Question regarding game 2 - Page 8 Empty Re: Question regarding game 2

Post by J Flower Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:11 am

It can get a bit confusing,

The Duke of Holstien lost his named Duchy to the Swedes, At the time Denmark & Sweden were joined by the Kalmar union, since then the Danish Regency has broken away & with it Holstien.

Mecklenberg was being used as a base by the Swedes In their war against Prussia, they allied with Sweden. Prussia Made peace with Sweden & occupied Mecklenberg.

It has more to do with Game mechanics than Historical reality.

It is interesting how often in game that the Kalmar Union reappears...and in a game that's been going for 20 years there is bound to be a bit of vagueness about who owns what...

Maybe we should ask Richard for a defining map of the who owns what variety.

Part of the reason for the current war in Europe in G2 is the vague mapping of the area around Strassburg, the last France player seemed to think the city was his because it was on his side of the Rhein.
