Re: Question regarding game 2
It appears the French have finally given up the ghost, now it is just the citadel to capture. Maybe there will now be a chance for peace in G2. Seems that the Ear Tax levyed by the Barbaric Hungarians was simply too much for the French. Maybe there is a way of introducing it across Europe.

Re: Question regarding game 2
As someone who has played both Ottoman and Persian position's I feel your pain:(MarkTurner26 wrote:I like how I am the barbaric one. Just because I turned up cut off a few ears.
Adopt "Eastern" historical tactics such as:
1) Impaling your foe's
2) Having them flayed alive and using them for saddle cloth's
3) Firing their heads into besieged cities
4) Paying a bonus to troops based on the number of heads* taken (some people such as your characters father when he was fighting for the Rumelian's to help free Hungary from the Hapsburg Yoke replaced heads with ears as lighter and more portable)
5) Drinking out of their skulls (Silver or gold plated in a artistic and decorative style naturally)
And are you rewarded for historic play and trying to keep the old military traditions alive? Not a hope! All you get is blasted in pro Hapsburg & pro Vanetian scandle rags like The Mecure Gallant.
However I am pleased to see that even in Ottoman Lite position's like liberated Hungary in G2 some players are not bowing to pressure and are still trying to keep the good old ways alive.
Oddly while such tactics seem to have a negative effect on Agema Reporters they do seem to have a more positive effect on Players who seem more alarmed than NPC at the thought of having to fend off Tarter and Hussar raid's while fighting slash and burn campaigns in Balkan Mountains.
So keep the faith and keep paying the "ear money"..........5 sets = promotion to elite status.

Re: Question regarding game 2
Probably best to send for the Vet, it may be time for the silver bullet.
Don't worry about the 80,000 POWs needing to find re-employment they all died last month, I think Richard just wanted to save money on the postage so let 3 pages of captured French die off.
the entire population of the city has agreed to be resettled in sunnier climes where the dangers of being eaten by wild animals outwiegh the fear of having their ears cut off by rabid Hungarians.

Re: Question regarding game 2
In terms of the number of men engaged and losses suffered I was wondering how Strasbourg in G2 compares to large battles/sieges in other games?
Any really, really big battles in China or India yet?
In terms of number of men engaged I think the only larger conflict in G2 was Lisbon which involved the full might of the English & Spanish Navies as well as armies but since that siege ended with a peace treaty losses were a lot less than Strasbourg which in terms of military losses would seem to be in a league of its own.
Its only G2 rival in sheer amount of blood being spilt being some of Iskander Kruppa's campaigns, but compared to the Emperor's campaign on the Rhine they tended to result in much lower military losses and much higher civilian losses as the Rumalians aimed at their foe's EH rather than Military.

Re: Question regarding game 2
A quiet turn-just illness but no fighting at Strassburg, Captain Hill at Kingston proving he is immortal by announcing he'll drink himself to death, Bandits on the loose near Stuttgart...and heavy cannon fire near Munich (is it troops drilling? new cannon being testfired? or a sneak attack?)
Am sure Stuart will be a much better, more humorous summary

Re: Question regarding game 2
I agree with comments about the last turn in G2.........not much happening after the blood bath on the Rhine.
Guess the Emperor and his merry men need a bit of a rest before they attempt to take the last stronghold of the rebel Elector of Baden...........the dreaded Butterfly House.
Mind you if Baden and its fondness for importing French Troops into the Empire has caused problems one wonders what type of trouble a certain Elector of Hanover is storeing up for the future by putting the Janissary Junta and their Mamluke Allies in charge of the Hanovarian Military..........these are bad men, very bad men!

Re: Question regarding game 2
I think it maybe time for the men with the comfy chair & the soft pillow to visit Hanover, to extract the secret plans of it's Elector.
If that fails maybe they will send for the goat.......
You have been warned.
No Marmalade junkies in Berlin thankyou very much, we have enough problems as it is.

When trying to infilrate the Electors Harem/Janissary corp the cushions and the goat will be Ok but I think the chair may stand out a bit. Have checked the ACME (Athens corporation of manufacturers & exporters) supply list..........and lots of cushions, carpets, flute girls and strange pipes for smoking the finest lebanese hash from but no chairs!
My concern is that the Emperor imported lots of Albanian Merc's who got bored doing garrison duty and turned to their traditional occupation of banditary.........the French chased them out of Baden but it took 30 units of Dragoons to do it.
The Elector imported lots of Janissary & Mamlukes who are bitter rivals of the above and may be planning their traditional occupation of regime change.
Could our heroic gum shoe the Sherlock Holmes of Prussia be about to find himself mixed up in an Ottoman gang fight? Could Gertrude be in mortal danger of ending up on the menu of a Turkish fast food and coffee shop in Hanover? Do the high and mighty of the HRE care about the mortal danger their actions pose to blameless German goats

Re: Question regarding game 2
Note to self: arrange for Janissary Corps to be on guard duty when Kingmaker turns up
Though it has to be said, if I realised that the Janissary and Mameluke would cause so much fear among the Princes of the Empire, I'd have ordered 40,000 rather than 4,000...

Re: Question regarding game 2
So...looks like we are on the verge of peace breaking out! Though France isn't willing to let captured merchants go...on the theory that it's only Prussia that is making the offer and any French merchants so released are just going to be captured by the English...so unless England agrees to a merchant exchange as part of the peace talks, French merchants are safer being prisoners of Prussia than being free
Lots of German lords are in favour of an imperial diet...though everyone wants to have something different (sounds like most diets)
Russia is trying not to slaughter the Swedes by offering generous peace terms...but you get the feeling the Swedes are determined to be slaughtered...
The Dread Moghul seems to be on a grand tour...Mexico City is not somewhere to go if you don't want to be kidnapped...the Prussia commander at Kaiser Frederick's Hafen wants to launch an expedition to subdue the natives, leading to the question...where is KFH????
But of course the big news is that in that most wonderful of lands, Hanover, the noble and great (and not Janissary fixated at all) Prince Karl George has slashed taxes on his people

Re: Question regarding game 2
In what must rank as the quietest turn ever in Glory, from the paper of February 1741
- The Royal Italian Company held some trade fairs in some Italian towns
- Sweden offered revised peace terms to Russia, which (I think) only really differed from the Russian ones in that Estonia goes to the Teutonic Order and not Russia
-the Kaiser signed a peace treaty with Baden...just as the army of Leige-Cologne besieged Strassburg! So is it peace or not!
-The Kaiser is ill! Apparently...
-In the paradise that is Hanover, a land clearly the envy of all, the 'needy' (a relative term in a realm where the lowest peasant lives better than most princes of the empire) benefited from a distribution of grain

Re: Question regarding game 2
So instead of easter eggs...we get G2...
Fairly quiet as everything seems to be leading up to the peace talks as well as the "future of the empire" talks...
The Kaiser is still ill and been told to stay in bed by his mummy...though not as ill as his army (or remains of it) at Strassburg who have either died or are following their lord's example and gone home to bed...the Leigois troops have also left, not apparently ill but likely to have a sniffle by the time they finish marching through the storms...a bit like the Prussian army that has just left Hamburg...
Apparently the Kaiser did manage to lift the ban on French trade...and one month after the Danes said "please don't attack or threaten us" is asking them to give up a lot of land...and the Kaiser wonders why people don't trust him...
The Great Moghul, having seen his victorious army and navy return home, is also going home.
Meanwhile, in the paradise that is Hanover, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average, all remains well and its great Prince has made clear he will go to Berlin to stand up for the rights of everyone! What a man!
