Re: Game 8
Am I the only one who noticed but the G8 outbreak of far eastern piracy/privateering/maritime commerce whatever you want to call it has now started up in G7.

Re: Game 8
27 boats missing in the far east in one month is quite a haul. I presume it's one of the pirate positions, but if it is, it is a big one.
I can find a couple of references to peacock flags, one for Burma, one for Sri Lanka. Neither seems likely in context, so I'd guess the Wako or the south sea pirates. I have no idea how large those positions are, though historically the Wako weren't very strong at this period.
http://wiki.samurai-archives.com/index.php?title=Wako
The heyday of the chinese pirates was about 100 years after our period:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ching_Shih Though I've seen Richard transplant stuff a bit to spice up the game, but that seems like a bit much of a stretch.
Has anybody played either of the eastern pirate positions? Are they that large? I guess the player could have been secretly building up, but either way it's a lot of ships to take.

Re: Game 8
27 missing ships in a month is nothing - in G7 the French navy rounded up a hundred English liners within a couple of months using a few corvettes and frigates. It is just a case of knowing where to hit them.

Re: Game 8
Yes, for a full navy.
To get 27 ships in a month for a pirate position says the pirate position is either, very large, very lucky, or planned very well. Take your pick.

Look, the whole yellow thing is just down to an allergic reaction and it's not contagious...honest!
Besides, whereever I go, I bring peace, friendship and harmony...my armies march with flowers in their muskets...

You know, I am a bit suspicious over the kwantung fishing boats. Korea Bay is hardly open water and yet no reports of anyone seeing anything.
I wonder if the recent Pacific storms could have been bad enough to sink them?

A flash storm that no one noticed sinking 10 fishing boats, probably not.

You'd think the surviving boats would have mentioned a freak storm...

Pity the Manchu are a bunch of Barbarian Horse Nomads who get sea sick crossing a river.

And down with the foreign oppressors of the Chinese people and their filithy lackies and tax collectors.

Re: Game 8
Hi Guys,
Only logged on to see if my cricket match was on or off.
Then I noticed the shocking level of unanswered Manchu propaganda on this site.
After the invasion of G7 by G8 anyone up for a counter attack?
What price a Dzungar & Wako Alliance????
Qu to the one eyed one? Is this just a wind up from the pop corn munching seats or a dastardly threat to the peace of the Middle Kingdom?

Propaganda? You mean truthful statements by loyal servants of the Emperor that can not be countered even by skilled deceivers.

No............I by "Manchu Propaganda" I was refering to false statements put out by the paid lackies of the Northern Barbarians who wrongfully control most of China .........that they have the Coastal security problem under control.

Re: Game 8
Nonsense!
His Imperial Majesty, the Son of Heaven, Celestial Light of the August Realms is entirely too important to be burdened by the fetid foulness of facts.
Heaven will, of course, provide victory and security in the fullness of time, so let us proclaim so now and allow the current passing of clouds before the sun pass unnoticed and unremarked!

Re: Game 8
If I understand this correctly 1000 Ming Loyalists Ships with Wako allies could sack Nanking, Shanghai or Canton but provided no one informs the Big Manchu Chief who claims to hold the mandate of Heaven its Ok?
I guess the only real problem with this set up is if the city/ships taken are from your area and a neigbour calls it in but you do not. Then its No7 all over the face time and difficult questions from big Mongol Bannermen about why useless lackey is sleeping on job.

Of course, any old Chinese pirate can nick a few fishing vessels...but it takes a real one to copy their 17th Century ancestors and go and raid the Phillipines..

Re: Game 8
Well kudos to the Manchu battlefleet for a good first attempt on the pirates, they didn't catch the pirates but did surprisingly well, I thought.
To catch up with the pirates and give them a run in the month after they struck was well done. And they may catch them yet...

Re: Game 8
Sorry, I think Richard must have sent me an incorrect version of the newspaper...in mine, the pirates have run away, towards Japan, from the warfleets of the Manchu empire...
