Yep Deacon, it's a hard choice isn't it...but at least it's a better indulgence than most others

Re: Game 8
I the most fortunate of men in that I married a gamer, so she was the one who said, "well, we'll cut back on things, but you're not dropping game 8!"
She tried out the game as a Burma for a while. I'm trying to entice her back.

Re: Game 8
My other half is also a gamer though she prefers WoW-type games. I have thought about encouraging her to give Glory a go but I fear she'd only go on a all-out campaign of slaughter, rape and pillage that would make event the Ottomans go "I say, that's going a bit far"

Diplomatic niceties are the order of the day in Northern Europe. France is a big black hole from which nothing escapes. A bit of trouble between The Twin Kingdoms of Spain/Portugal and Tunis. And that's about it. Welcome and as usual, good luck.
By the way, the reason I keep all mine is because I use google mail, and with 15 gigabytes of free storage, you can just file them away and not worry about it. It also makes it easier to use the computer to search them later if you need to. I recommend it, or something like it.

Not sure of Richards policy, but I would certainly like to take a look at the old papers.

Thanks for that Deacon. I'll have a look. I've got so much course work on there I think I need an overall upgrade.

Re: Game 8
My turn to whine.
/whine
A 3 point honour drop because I invited regional bodies to elect some folks to come to advise me in Madrid. Or at least I think that's why.
I give the regional bodies MORE voice in government and they hate on me for it.
Go figure.
/whineoff
I do think this is one area where the smaller positions can really shine. It seems to take a lot to move honour in the bigger positions.

Re: Game 8
Totally agree Deacon. Honour is a pet hate of mine. It is very hard to gain, yet very easy to lose. Especially if you are a big position. It always seems very easy for the smaller positions.
Perhaps the fact they are only advisors for 5 years played a part. They may have wanted the job for life with no elections. Pass it down the family line.
Never mind. I feel that game 8 will get interesting over the next few months, and turns.

Oh I found gaining honour as england fairly easy, playing historically really helped, and being anti french also helped.

Got to be honest, never had a real problem with honour in any position, regardless of size. Now the economy, there is the remaining great mystery for him...

Echoing the two subsequent comments, I've not found a large nation that much harder to move in Honour than a small one (though I have only played one of each!) My (quasi-anonymous) large nation has moved from 2 to 50 in just over 3 game-years, on a fairly steady progression where the causes of the set-backs (damned vagrants!) were fairly obvious and the means used to advance were fairly standard (investing in banquets and buildings, portraits and statues etc.) - albeit admittedly expensive, but then, I have the coffers...

Diplomatic niceties are generally the order of the day in Europe. France continues to be very quiet.
In India the Moghul continues to add to his holdings.
Elsewhere all is quiet and that's as exciting as it gets.

Regarding honor remember its the nobles who give it not the populance hence they may have not liked the idea of cousins from the countryside getting above themselves

Re: Game 8
Mark. December orders have already been sent off but will write fully at years end.
As far as I know there are no immediate threats to the Empire. The trouble caused by the Crimean Corsairs operating out of Sfax has been neutralised and and the Dons of Spain/Portugal have been placated.

Re: Game 8
Ottomans are active as you’ve noticed. I’ve regularly exchanged letters with them. Early in the game there was a treaty between them and the Russians that I thought might make for interesting developments but then the Russian player dropped.
The oddity of the game, in my view, is that France is absolutely non-communicative. Doesn’t respond to any letters, posts nothing in the paper. We know they’re in play, but that’s all we know. I think we’re all wondering if they’re a powderkeg ready to blow, or whether the player has just watched how in every game that France opens its mouth, it immediately makes a bunch of enemies and has decided to be quiet.
The Moghul has been conquering a bit. England is working its way through the acts of union. Spain and Portugal have formally merged into the Empire of Hispania under Emperor Pedro (originally king of Portugal).
The Barbary Corsairs were active out of Sfax and attacked Spanish and Venetian shipping (probably others, that’s what I remember) The Ottoman Dey of Tunis turned a blind eye to the situation, so the Spanish fleet slipped into Sfax and burned the Corsair fleet, and then blockaded Sfax, and later Tunis demanding compensation.
Through the intercession of the Wali of Egypt that compensation was paid, and the blockade lifted.
Richard sells back papers (I have sometimes passed them out, but feel uncomfortable doing that when Richard charges for them.). I think they're a pound or a pound and a half. Probably a good investment to pick some up.
