Re: Game 8
Not all is as it seems. The Egyptian Janissary Corps was only following orders to destroy their old and out of date battalion guns, and the way they went at it with gusto is to be admired. Such enthusiasm bodes well.

Re: Game 8
You wouldnt believe how long and how hard it is for Tatars to build a fleet let alone getting it to chinese waters. Not to mention crippling the Tatar economy to actually pay for it. And I am talking about the one I have just lost.
Yes - I know I shouldnt complain if I go pirating but but, it was my beautiful pirate fleet you sunk...

My theory is that "pirates" should not be in fleets.......they should be in Squadrons/on Patrol.
They should also avoid ports as much as possible.....its safer at sea.
Finally if you are going to have Pirate Ships in Port I would have the port deep in somewhere like the Dnepr delta so lineships can not get at them.
Does G8 need a Stuart Bailey pirat: to show these land lubberly horse thieves how its done?

Re: Game 8
Maybe Basileus can have a word with the English...given the challenge to declare war given by the Twin Kingdoms, he might find some English gold could help him rebuild...

I could be mistaken, but I'm betting I have a lot more Gold than England....

Re: Game 8
Ahh but Deacon, you're not likely to fund Basileus to rebuild his pirate fleet to attack you again...
...well...you might...I mean...if you just want to ensure a regular supply of targets for your fleet

Re: Game 8
Nice one Deacon, even though this success was at the expense of one of my brothers. But as the saying goes, you choose your friends, not your family.
Perhaps the lesson here is that if you choose to play in other peoples' backyard, don't be surprised if they get upset...

Indeed Deacon, very well done...I think it's one of the few times I can remember seeing pirates properly defeated...usually they just run away...

Re: Game 8
I will write to the English then and see if they can fund a new pirate fleet. Oh what I would do if I could afford a fleet of ships of the line! I will start to pay note to shipping movements around Iberia from now on.

I guess we'll see what happens on the new turn, but I don't think I'm trespassing the rules by saying I don't think it's over. Pedro doesn't provoke easily, but he doesn't drop it when he is..
Surprised that nobody has commented on the international weights and measures standard. I thought it was a rather capital idea.

Sorry Rev. I delete mine after I print them, but not much going on.
Diplomatic niceties are the order of the day in Northern Europe. France is a big black hole from which nothing escapes. A bit of trouble between The Twin Kingdoms of Spain/Portugal and Tunis. And that's about it. Welcome and as usual, good luck.

Re: Game 8
So I jumped into Game 8 again and need to think about the direction to take the state, given the turn info I have just received.
In case you were not aware I started Game 8 at the beginning as Scotland and came back a couple of years later as His Holiness, stopping both times due to irl work etc. I won't say (yet!?!) which state I am this time other than it is not the first two listed here.
Just to keep you guessing I have got an irl job to apply for so probably not enough time for letters this month.

Welcome to the game, folks.
I do have papers going back to the first turn, so assuming this is alright with Richard, I could share with folks.

Re: Game 8
Thank you all for the welcomes and welcome too to @revvaughan
I think I owe a lot to Jason (many thanks Jason) for the position I have inherited and look to do it justice going forward.
It looks like this game is getting busy again with so many people active in this thread. I am looking forward to meeting people in game.

Re: Game 8
Have fun with the position Marshal Part of the reason it's in relatively good shape is the support I had from Kwantung-I think it's the first time I've played a Chinese position where it felt like I was in a proper team and I think we should it worked. Was a hard decision to leave...but alas the need to pay the mortgage had to take priority

Re: Game 8
I know how that is! My extended unemployment got me out of game 7, and holding on to game 8 was my one permitted indulgence!
